That was 1 of the most awesome displays in a supposed 50/50 fight Ive ever seen... period (in fact, Lacy was a slight fav) You get schoolings of humiliation like Whitaker/Ramirez II & you get expert demolishons like in Ali/Williams but this was the perfect blend. Calzaghe completely outboxed the guy while landing loads of hurt into the bargain.... the fight should have been stopped about rd 7, Joe won every rd.... he supposedly landed 1006 punches tho I find that hard to believe but this was thee modern day masterclass IMO. If you havent seen this fight... you dont know what you are missing, vintage Calzaghe, watch it immediately. The current best p4p boxer in the world at his brilliant best. :thumbsup
I remember watching that fight getting prepared for the first defeat of Calzaghe's career because of all the hype surrounding Lacy. I'd only seem highlights of him destroying Reid but with over 90% of boxing writers and most of the forum predicting a Lacy KO/TKO I was getting prepared for a Calzaghe beatdown as unlikely as it seemed. Amazing performance though and I agree that it should have been stopped by the 7th or 8th round. Lacy's corner could have also thrown in the towel because there was no chance of him winning after that and they could have saved him from being ruined like he has been.
awesome,it definetly should've been stopped in rd 7 when lacy's head was bouncing all over in joe's corner.
Agree 100% I think the frustration that had built up in Joe for yrs of not landing a big fight was released on poor Lacy... that was special alright, 1 of the best performances in a title fight in history surely, in fact it was a unification fight which makes it really special. Botswana :smoke
