Re-watched Floyd vs Maidana today. 3 thoughts

When watching and judging a fight, one must have the ability to separate the bull**** from the real thing. People that don't use those observation skills will most surely call a fight wrong. In the Maidana and Mayweather fight, people were watching Maidana and not the fight. Watch the dam FIGHT!

 

I scored it 114-114, but if I had to pick a winner, I would lean toward Floyd. It was a fun fight. I thought Floyd came back well in the second half, but even a tiring Maidana gave him trouble late.

A lot of people are already talking up the weight difference (which is not new for Floyd at 147 and 154) and how impressively Floyd adjusted. These things are true, yes, but he was also expected by most (like 95% of fans and pundits) to win easy, as in, 10 rounds to 2 or thereabouts.

I just hope the narrative in the next few days doesn’t diminish how impressive Maidana was, or that this was a much closer fight than almost every “expert” anticipated. Maidana was not supposed to be much of a challenge, yet he did more against Floyd than anyone since Castillo.

2. I agree floyd skills are off I watched him struggle with a speed bag same bag he use to hit with one hand, but dont agree he should retire. He should finish his contract fight Maidana, Fight Khan, and end his career with whoever

3. I stopped reading because it pissed me off. Maidana is a champion. He became even better with Garcia worlds better. He has improved but I always saw him as a champ since the Ortiz fight. Ortiz is no great but you have to be good to beat him. Maidana has many more good wins. Thats plain old disrespect to call chino a damn journey man.

I agree with you about your list not saying maidana cant beat any of them hed have a good chance but a lot of them could beat him too and a lot of people on here think hes leagues above the guys mentioned

 

People that felt Floyd should've beat Maidana easily didn't know or respect Maidana. Whoever fights Maidana since he started with Garcia is in for a fight. For one, Maidana is a no nonsense, take no prisoners kind of a fighter. Garcia added a jab and some head movements to his style. That really made him a formidable 147 pounder. He surprised Floyd and the dirty **** in the fight made it worse but he still lost and he will lose the second fight because the element of surprise is gone.

 

so is this fight still for the 154 title at a catchweight at 148 ?

 

I agree w your 3rd point especially, Khan beats this old Floyd convincingly imo. I don't think he'll finish this contract undefeated

 

Good points but Floyd shouldn't retire. All you need to be reminded of his present skills is rewatch the Canelo/Cotto and even the Maidana fight. Just because he lost probably 4 rounds doesn't mean it's time for him to hang them up. This particular fight was a GOOD clash of styles and, for once, I give Floyd more credit in hindsight for beating the best and most focused version of Maidana we've ever seen.

I think we were all guilty of thinking Maidana was going to be a walk over but he came out all guns blazing, didn't give a s*** what he threw and where he hit; just decided to throw volume punches with intent for the full 12 rounds. Floyd's typical pot-shotting just wasn't enough to win by the usual 12-0 decision.

I think of the two, a rematch suits Floyd more (with him being the more generally intelligent of the two). He knows Maidana is going to come in in violent form and look to knock his block off, and I think he'll employ a better tactic this time round to interrupt that offense and slow it down something more like what were use to seeing Floyd fight - maybe look to land something big early on?

Not sure if I've gone off topic a bit there - just think Floyd's got a good bit of life left him in yet, and he can still provide the exquisite standard of boxing mastery we're all accustomed to.

I can see Maidana being ahead of Porter. Porter's best win is who? maybe Devon or Malignaggi. Chino has wins over Broner (who beat Malignaggi), Josesito Lopez, Karass, and Morales. (ancient)

Porter has wins over Alexander, Malignaggi, and Julio Diaz

Thurman has wins over Chaves, Diaz, Karass

Brook's best win his Senchenko.

Floyd is still too good for Khan. Even at this age. I dont think he's getting out undefeated either, but Khan's not the guy I;m concerned with.

 

Idk whats funny. All those slow jabs that were hitting Floyd will be 10x faster with Khan. And don't count on a KO, since Floyd hit Maidana with some flush right hands and maidana looked cleaner than he was at the weigh in
