I watched the fight again Saturday in my nice and quite house as opposed to a noisy bar, and was able to make a more honest, fair assessment of the fight almost everyone has brushed off as a complete dud...

...watching the fight, it was obvious that wasn't the same Pac we've become used to over the last few years, but what was the reason behind it? Vote in the poll, but if you have another opinion, feel free to share...

I re-watched the fight as well and It had more action than I remembered! I guess I was hyped up last weekend.. I was expecting a savage war.. Pacquiao didnt throw his usual 1000 punches because shane was fighting very cautious after the 3rd round... But pacquiao still landed good shots and dominated shane mosley!

    I saw a mix.

Pacquiao having an off-night possibly due to over-training, Mosley unwilling to engage, Mosley also being effective defensively at neutralizing a lot of Pacquiao's offense, and Pacquiao trying to please the fans with some action and ending up chasing Shane somewhat ineffectively.

After re-watching the Pac/SSM fight, Pac was better than I thought he had been. Bernstein said the same thing, upgrading Pac's "grade" for the fight to "B+" from a "B."

Pac does a lot of things that are missed in a fight. I saw more of them the second time around.

I saw Manny reducing Shane to a blundering, inept coward. I didn't see any of the things you mentioned in the poll. He outlanded Shane 177-22 in power punches and knocked him down for the first time since downloadable ringtones were invented for god's sake.

yeah I saw Pacquaio taking it easy on Shane, he probably could have finished if he wanted to, but Pac has a pretty good heart, he doesn't see the sense in beating up an old fighter, don't really blame him. To him its just a sport

SSM was desperate to survive - so he did, pac allowed him to survive and also pac is slowing a little bit

Pac looked less impressive this time(I watched it three times) than he did in my two prior viewings. Shane looked like a guy who fought out of his element and did not know how to stay safe while being aggressive, and was therefore defensive.

Both didn't look good at all. Mosley didn't come to win or even try to win.

Do you guys feel pac was hesitating to go at mosley like he did between rounds 10-12 because they were affraid of mosleys power and the big right hand possibly coming back why risk it? Floyd doesnt have that power to be affraid off would he be more like 10-12 attack mode or still hesitating?

I actually watched this again last night. A couple of things I thought to myself were, the question of ring size, and how Pacquiao's style isn't specialized (or for a better word, optimized) for chasing runners, unlike great inside fighters in the past. He likes to move in the midst of attacking, and all the opponent has to do is move the opposite direction and is out of the fray, even when cornered.

No it feels like the more they back away, the shorter his combinations will tend to be. Most likely due to the reason being that if he attempts to continue his combinations at increasing range they will put him more and more out of position and susceptible to counter, which may be why the pace seemed so slow.

I think it was a combination of "Pac is finally slowing down" and "Pac knew SSM had nothing, was aiming to please, and looked sloppy in the process", but more so the latter (which got my vote).

It didn't seem to me like Pacquiao was hesitant at all. If fact, in consecutive viewings he seemed more aggressive in the effort to attack and finish Mosley than he did the first time I watched it.

The simple matter is this.... Its harder to hit a moving target. And I think Pacquiao could potentially be MORE careful against Mayweather because of Mayweather's accuracy. Precision in many cases can trump sheer force. If Mayweather is able to punish Pacquiao for lunging in and leaving himself open by letting his hands go so freely(which he will and has done his entire career), Pacquiao will start to think before throwing certain punches and combos. The punches you don't see hurt the most, and Manny has never faced even close to that level of handspeed. Also, Mayweather is not Malignaggi. He has fair punching power and maybe underrated punching power. Mosley obviously respected that Mayweather could punch; I think Manny will as well.
