first of all, it reinforced the fact that Lennox Lewis is the most inarticulate announcer in any sport in the world. One of his genius comments was "that cut came from either a punch or a headbutt". Oh really? Second, it was an incredible, non-stop battle. Gatti-Ward 4 without the blood. I have no idea how you could score round by round as they were slugging it out the entire time. The 11th round knockdown probably made the difference in favor of Spence. Third, I'd rather see a rematch of these two than Canelo-GGG III.
I went to this fight and felt Spence eeked it out with the knockdown. A thoroughly enjoyable fight. I have not watched it back on TV yet but been meaning to. Agree on Lennox. He was terrible on Fury-Wilder (and every fight he ever commentates on) when he talked about Wilder going down “he was even off balance and still went down”, well, yeah.
It was an awesome fight. I knew it would be great. I don't think people realized how stacked 147 is, and how closely those guys are clustered together in terms of their talent. Crawford is the best, but I can see guys like Spence, Porter, Thurman, and Manny all trading wins and losses if they had a round robin. I even think Danny Garcia would be in that mix if he's healthy and active. As for Lennox: yeah he stinks, and I don't understand why they keep him because everyone agrees he stinks. it's not a situation like with Max Kellerman or Steven A Smith, where you either love or hate them. Lennox is just bad to listen to and not very original or observant.
LOL! I rank him among the bottom dweller-commentators, but Foreman gives him a real go. There were a few fights where it's 12th round, fighter is down on all cards, commentators all in agreement then George blurts out "Well all it takes is one shot with the big boys" Merchant" "George, you've been saying that all night, its a minute left to go, don't u think that one shot would've happened by now?" There was one fight Lennox said.." He's got blood coming out of his nose.....so he definately got hit in the nose." I'll end wit your comment of Oh, really Lennox?
Porter brought it. He deserves a lot of credit for the way he made the fight. Spence responded well but Shawn forced the fight. Not saying Spence didnt win I just left appreciating Shawn Porter. He gave it all.
Foreman is a dope it's his character Lennox pretends to be a classy intellectual yet he has... a less then sharp wit.
He forced Spence to fight. It was a good boxing night. Reminded me of a Saturday afternoon in 1981 on NBC
