...the other day and I really think that Calzaghe would easily beat Dawson. I think Calzaghe's hand speed and work rate would be far too much for Dawson.
I definitely would favor Calzaghe over my man going into the fight but it would be a good battle and Chad could pull it off. Stylistically, Hopkins might be an easier fight for Bad Chad.
I hear ya. This is a comedy thread. Well, I was watching the Jones and Bhop fight against Calzaghe..lol I noticed how they were kicking his ass whenever they threw.. Dawson would have no problem keeping up the pace and he would have no straight lefts to be weary of like he was with Tarver. Dawson would just beat his body and just use his height, jab and superior foot speed to just set up whatever he wants whenever.
I think Dawson is above average but I still don't see him as elite.. I mean the Tarver rematch is showing his ambition and belief in himself.
Calzaghe was getting caught repeatedly by right hand leads whenever Hopkins or Jones decided to throw. Calzaghe has never fought a fast young large fighter like Dawson. It would be the most physically exerting fight of his life at the least.
Calzaghe got up from a forearm against Jones Jr, took Kessler's huge uppercuts and still won comfortably The only thing that Dawson has is Size and age advantages His chin is worse than Calzaghe's, as is his ring generalship and work rate
Jones is 40 years old ands been shot for 4 years. Kessler is your typical mechanical European fighter. Chad Dawson has speed, power, is a comfortable light heavyweight, has nearly a 77 inch reach, is 6'3 and a south paw. He is superior in every facet to both the fighters you just mentioned. He also throws harder cleaner punches with speed. Calzaghe tends to slap and shoe shine. Dawsons punches have snap to them. Dawsons been dropped by Adamek and was stunned by Johnson. Calzaghe was dropped by Jones and Hopkins. Who got dropped by the harder punchers? Adamek is now a cruiserweight.
Some of the posts in this thread are completely idiotic, this one above especially. You do realise that the Tarver rematch is a stipulation of the inital contract that cannot be avoided don't you? As for the fight itself... Dawson escels against guys who give him room to move and box. He has more handspeed than Calzaghe. He is taller than Joe, naturally bigger than Joe, and an actual prime fighter, unlike Hop or Jones especially. This fight represents the hardest stylistic fight in boxing for Calzaghe right now. Out of all his opponents, he has always had the most trouble with guys who stay at range with him and box. He had trouble with an old BHop because of this and he also had problems vs Kessler due to his style. Dawson is slicker, faster, bigger and a better combination puncher than both of these guys. Make no mistake, this is an extremely difficult fight for Joe at this stage of his career should he choose to take it. The way he wins is by applying pressure, something he didn't do very well against Kessler when he tried to. He often times ducked his head forwards, and didn't maintain balance when trying to work his way inside. Against Chad this will be very dangerous, considering how fast and dangerous his uppercuts are on the counter. He really needs to overwhelm Dawson with workrate, using his superior stamina and trying to back Chad up with his jab and keep him inactive. Whether he can do this to someone who is so fast, and so slick himself is very debatable. Personally i don't think he can. I see Chad taking a UD 8-4.
The point is if RJJ even at 39 hits you in the face with a forearm its gonna hurt......think about it And Glen Johnson is not a big puncher.......Kessler isnt mechanical and even if he was doesnt mean a thing when describing how hard he hit Calzaghe with uppercuts Calzaghe is more proven than Dawson and so I have no reason to believe Dawson would beat him afterall tarver and johnsons combined age in about the same as jones and hopkins.....who were the better fighters?? Dawson is 10 years younger than Calzaghe so think about it
