Since when do Johnson and Calzaghe fight the same way.... Not in any of the fights i have seen. Johnson attacks with swarming pressure, using his high guard to work his way inside before letting his hands go. Calzaghe likes to box with his opponents, use his jab to set the pace, and then attack with combination when they cover up. They have very different styles. Agree pretty much with the rest of your post but.
No I was saying that Joe would have to fight the way that Johnson did, not that they fight the same way.
Chad Dawson would pop Calzaghe's cherry. An elite fighter in their prime, no wonder Joe said no thanks. He's never fought one of those.
you can see by this thread dawson has lots of admirer`s and fans. what is hard to understand is why no one will pay to actually watch dawson fight live ?
How do you rate Dawson out of curiosity? Personally i think he fought in second gear for parts of the Tarver bout. I think he wanted to try and show off his improved defensive ability after the Johnson fight, and really put on a boxing masterclass. Hence during a couple of the early rounds seemingly toying with Tarver.
very good fighter. has a lot of skills from the outside, 50/50 is how i see him going in big fights when he gets them. i do not know what he has to do to draw a crowd and get fans behind him , i cannot beleive how poor the las vegas crowd was for tarver v dawson. if those were 2 european fighters they would have sold out a big arena. i think the second gear part is apt, not because he wants to showcase, its just how he fights, he likes to fight in his own rythem and comfort zone, take rests and rounds off. he is a much better fighter than tarver as he is faster, is just as good a counterpuncher /but most importantly his offense and footspeed is superior making him a more complete fighter. i like watching him fight and consider myself a fan of his.
Calzaghe said no thanks? Did I miss Dawson actually manning up and making an offer? What were the specifics?
