re watching floyd vs canelo

I said it in this forum the days after it happened that the fight was closer than what most were saying.

I thought Mayweather had his way for the first 5 rounds, Canelo unable to deal with Mayweather's quickness, but then almost all of the rounds afterward were close and competitive.
Mayweather just stopped being aggressive with his counters in the second half of the fight as Canelo was adapting more to his speed.
My final score read 7-5 Mayweather as I gave Canelo credit for his come forward aggression and credited his body punching that was never mentioned on the HBO broadcast I watched.

Those who are of the opinion that Mayweather won the fight hands down stopped scoring after the first half of the fight, the impression of Canelo being overwhelmed by Mayweather's quickness and speed those early rounds left to much of an impression that those folks stopped paying close attention to what was really happening the 2nd half of the fight.

 

how is it? floyd won clearly and no has argued that canelo won apart from some online trolls. I'm saying if this guy re watches the fight and scores it for canelo then he is deluded.

 

explain the reason you believe that floyd won clearly and lets put your logic to the test.

 

well i am not gonna re watch it now and write a paragraph about each round, but i watched it live and watched it again since and canelo didn't really land much apart from some head punches which were blocked by floyd glove and some body shots, he spent most of the night missing, i'm not saying floyd hurt him or beat him but he landed the more cleaner shots throughout the fight. Floyd had over double canelos accuracy if im not mistaken and landed more power punches and a higher accuracy for them and jabs as well. Canelo landed 44 out of 294 jabs and floyd 139 out of 330. case closed

 

Citing Compubox numbers as proof that someone won a fight is a weak argument. Compubox / Punch Stats are highly inaccurate and biased. Just take a look at the punch stats of Pacquiao Horn. Even if you think Pacquiao won, those official punch stats are obviously ridiculously inaccurate in favor of the name fighter.

The punch stat operators were obviously not counting a lot of Canelo's punches landed, Floyd would pull back and it would be hard to tell in real-time if Floyd avoided the punch. Canelo was getting in a lot of jabs to the body that may have looked like Floyd was blocking them because he was in the shoulder roll, but look at it closely a good amount of those were getting through. Bottom line, Canelo landed more than 44 jabs. Floyd landed more jabs than Canelo in total, but Canelo landed more jabs to the body than Floyd, which he may not have been getting credit for due to Floyd being in the shoulder roll.

We have to get past the point as fans to using Compubox numbers to argue that somebody won. Boxing is scored round by round not by Compubox Punch Stats which are unreliable. I challenge you to make the argument that Floyd won any of the rounds that you disagree with my or anyone elses scorecard. If you can't get into the rounds and pinpoint what the best punches of a round were or who did what better then what your saying has no value. Same thing for Pacquiao Horn. Showing the Compubox numbers as proof of anything isn't using your brain. If you want to score the fight, then score the fight, if you disagree with who won a round then watch it again yourself and show where you thought the round was won. A good starting point to debating a round is just to point to who landed the best punches in a round.

 

i was only using those stats to add value to the couple of points i also said, i dont have time right now to go and watch the fight and give a break down of each round. But forget the stats because i agree they can be wrong, 2 of the judges had floyd winning, the commentators on boxnation and showime had floyd winning, everyone that spoke in interviews after said floyd won, as did a lot of people in comments on forums on social media. So you may think your some expert who spots things others dont but your not a pro boxer, trainer or pundit etc, so i think all those people know more than you and they agree with me saying floyd won.

That was the only fight post-140 that I was excited about going into, more so than pac just because that one was so late

As I've said I just wish Floyd have been giving us fights like that consistently over the back half of his career, instead of Ortiz Guerrero bull****

Anyone who watches the fight and doesnt admit the fight was very ****ing close either is:
1. Easily swayed by commentary (which often is the case)
2. Is bias
3. DKSAB

4. Is blind

 

95 percent of winner in fights thrown more and land more. Just remember that.

 

The only judge who had the bout close had to retire because of how ridiculous it was.... The fight was one sided and Canelo basically admitted that.

 

Watching Floyd, he always reacts to feints but he always keeps himself in a good defensive position regardless. He's not someone who ever gets suckered in by thinking a real shot coming is just a feint.

I had it 8-4 to Mayweather if I remember rightly, and I thought Canelo did a lot better than people gave him credit for. I also don't think he could have really fought all that much different of a fight in terms of the amount of pressure exerted on Mayweather. Canelo's a counterpuncher first and foremost. I wouldn't be all that surprised if Canelo were able to beat him now at 154 with Mayweather having aged more and taken time off and Canelo having gotten more experience under his belt, but it's hard to say and I'd still favour Mayweather.

 

Not close at all. I had it a shutout for Floyd. Easy win. Rounds were not close.
