Why have I been reading all this BS about fighters being small because of their supposed "Reach“ disadvantage?

Fighter A can't move up and fight fighter B because Boxrec says Fighter A has 6" less reach

    Or

Fighter A gets more credit moving up in weight than fighter B because Fighter B has an unusually large reach.

Firstly like Height, Reach is very often hugely inaccurate. The difference being Height can quickly be confirmed by fighters standing h2h against each other but reach is much harder to judge.

Luis Ortiz had a listed reach around 6" greater than his actual reach. Sulecki had a reach 6" + less than his actual reach.

Lomachenko most likely has a reach far greater than his listed reach too, having a reach as pathetic as his is uncommon and typical in bench pressers not ballerinas like himself. I find it pathetic that his fan boys can big up him because of this stat lol.

Also finger tip to finger tip reach isnt as relevant as arm length for fighters. Having wide shoulders might make you appear larger but it isn't going to lengthen your punch. It also makes you a bigger target.

When you throw a punch your shoulder extends forwards. Shoulder width DOES lengthen your punch. It also makes it easier to protect the chin with the shoulder. :duh

    Wtf is this thread?

And Loma could easily be 166 cm from fingertip to fingertip. I myself am 169 cm and my reach is 168.
Us white boys tend to have short reaches.

Do you believe Thomas Hearns reach of 78" and don`t you think if Loma could have overcome tat reach and power like Ray Leonard it would make him an ATG? You don`t think a long constant stiff jab like the one Tommy used against Ray is extremely difficult to tackle?

Mayweather has long arms for his height?
He doesn't have a particularly wide frame?

Mayweather has freakishly quick reflexes and great fight IQ.

He would still be great with shorter arms no doubt. He is super well rounded, he can do it all.

Think people don't understand how arms are measured. Arm pit to fingertips.

Shoulder extension is basically already included.

Having long arms gives you a much bigger guard. Having a wide chest doesn't really add much at all. Just means you have a bigger "Reach"

Having wider shoulders would still extend your reach though no? You can throw punches further away from your center line/head.

    yes!
    that too.
surely helped him, but doesn't take anything away from the first two facts.
sure he would be. only not nearly as effective as he was.
I'm pretty sure almost everyone understands that.
with full reach yes, but not when measuring arm length.
the so called "shoulderrol" is infinitely more effective with broad shoulders, and it does give an advantage extending yoour arms every way. just draw 2 pictures of a boxer with broad shoulders and one with narrow shoulders, both with the same arm length, both standing with their arms extended. Now make both pictures overlap until one reaches the other boxers head.
can you guess which boxer is the one that lands the "hit"?
