Reaction to B-Hop-Cloud card

The age of Bhop definitely accentuated the performance.....how could it not? But watching how this professor of the science conducted class was worth every second I spent watching HBO last night.

If you don't know what your looking at you might not fully appreciate the craft. Nard was freezing this young man with subtle yet efficient footwork.....he was the definition of a great ring general working behind his stick and walking Cloud like he was a Jack Russell.

The feints were doing the job and allowed Nard to keep Tavoris out of rhythm. Bhop looked like he was moving a lot. ....but it wasn't the kind of movement that expended a lot of energy. It was just the right amount of movement, nothing too extreme. ....slight angles. ...half steps back....side to side and pivots from the shell defense. ...Class was in session last night.

And Nard did focus a lot on well placed and strategic body shots that I know hurt Cloud. They were just so quick and well disguised that most of the commentators neglected to mention them.

Cloud wasn't no 2nd teir LHW champ. He was like a Sonny Liston esque puncher who mugs most of the guys he's faced. Nard ended up mugging him.

He offered nothing. He doesn't bring any personality to the role. It just seems very forced. Roy Jones, Malignaggi, Tarver, Foreman, Steward all flow and seem natural. They also bring some new perspective to the fight.

With someone as technically gifted as Ward you would hope for some insight into what is going on.

He might as well have not been there.

His commentary is like his fighting style. Every word is calculated to avoid a mistake, often at the sacrifice of flair.

 

I thought he articulated and offered good insight myself.....being so young and knowing this is not his real job at the moment, I think he did his thing. Now I agree some of the things he said might have been a tab forced or unnatural but he's easing his way into this new Avenue he's exploring. I'm sure he does spend a lot of time preparing for these gigs and maybe that's what you are hearing when you say he sounds forced. But I admire that the kid is taking the initiative to try and be a professional in whatever he does.

You need to be consistently any of those things. Cloud is quick and explosive but not at all consistent. Hopkins is consistent.

Hopkins does'nt really need to retire. I think he can hang on another 3 to 5 years if he wishes.
In this day in age, you can win World Titles without facing the best in a division.

The 2nd tier this day in age is enough to wrap a title belt around their waist.

 

You have a point. There are title holders today that never would have held a title 35 years ago. It's due to all the world titles that saturate the world of boxing as it stands today and all the added weight classes. That part of boxing has really hindered the sport in my opinion.
