DM unified the WBA, IBF, and WBO titles by beating the consensus #1 light heavyweight at the time when he was the consensus #2

The WBA and IBF screwed him out of their titles immediately, the WBA stripped him the moment he won, the IBF made the insane demand that he defend the title within 30 days of winning it or be stripped.

So to go around saying Roy Jones was the lineal champ for winning 2 belts that a man who won them fair and square in the ring was screwed out of doesn't make a whole lot of sense

It was a sanctioning body powerplay between American and German promoters, and a whole bunch of political bull****. The fact is that if DM had at least as much of a claim as being "The Man" at 175 as Roy Jones the whole time the two of them were there. If not for sanctioning body games he would have held 3 of the 4 major titles

He was, after Lewis went, he fought Sanders and won, this fight was clearly between 1 and 2 at HW regardless of any corrupt rankings

Whether we agree with it or not, Erdei is the linear champ at 175. It's not as significant as it used to be but it's still very much a claim in the history books. Alot of people can say they were champions at some point but they can't all say that they were linear champions.

Michalczewski was called the lineal champ even when Roy was p4p#1, so I don't think there's any reason why we shouldn't call Erdei what he is: LHW linear champ - and sadly a very protected Universum Box-Promotion fighter... But he's still the lineal champ, ask Bert Sugar if you have doubts.

Joe Calzaghe is the LHW no#1 lineal champ or not... Erdei is somewhere after Hopkins, Tarver, Dawson and Johnson in the fair rankings.

Erdi is champ, thats that, doesnt mean he's greater than sum1 who would come along and beat every1 else but him though, but he's the champ

Sooooo let's all demand that Calzaghe and Erdi fight, then we won't have to argue about it! :deal

But he was though , ranking-wise, wether you like the guy or considered him a great or able fighter doesnt matter, after that destruction of Wladimir at that time and Lewis' retirement, Sanders vs. Vitali was for the vacant lineal title.

Well, Dawson and Erdei are the 2 undefeated champs at 175, so if Joe would go after the undisputed LHW championship, he'd have to fight Erdei somewhere in the process...

 Whole bunch dont understand Lineal apparently:nono

LINEAL AND RING ARE NOT THE SAME THING!!:nono :nono :nono

Eredie is the LINEAL LHW Champ, Hops was Ring Champ, and Calzaghe AINT LINEAL:nono No matter how many times an announcer inaccurately says so.

Personally? **** LINEAL and Ring, beat the best ,and dont worry about which title they throw at you.

Unification always meant you beat all the Champs and was the REAL MARK. Yet the orgs strip, zip, and BS away from that happening. So all a guy can do today is face the toughest opposition and all paths will cross.

LOL, Erdei is a joke. He was wobbeled in his last fight, he has no real skills, suspect chin. He has no buisness at fighting any C level fighters. Currentyl he is fighting F level fighters. He had 2 loses with Garay and after that Germans wants no part of any alive contender.

Comparing Dawson and Erdei is an insult for Chad.

You can also make an argument that Dariusz was already a champ before Jones even moved up to LHW. And Jones fought for the vacant WBC belt. Also he (Dariusz) unified vs. lineal champ Virgil Hill (WBA/IBF/WBO), and after he was stripped, those titles became vacant. B*xingtalk likes to call them 'paper titles', and under their rules, Jones only unified paper titles since Dariusz never lost the WBA and the IBF in the ring.

My argument is you cant get a little bit lineal in an alphabet world:D

Boxing's a mess when it comes to titles. Thats the way they want it so promoters and entities will always have an angle to pump their agenda:good

If you can become linear champ by #1 and #2 fighting in a division what rankings do you go by?
Surely you can't go by rankings as different people will rank fighters in a different order, therefore Sanders being ranked #2 by one list could be ranked # 5 on another.
