I don't know how to title this thread as it is about a real off-the-wall idea, probably too foolish to get many replies, but here goes. If we could clone an ATG and match him at his peak against himself at his peak, how would the fight go? Obviously, each fight would be a toss-up, but how do you see it playing out? For example, I think Corbett almost certainly goes the distance against Corbett in a boxing match. Fitz almost certainly stops Fitz because his punch and finishing ability are better than his durability and defense.
    What happens when:

Jeff faces someone exactly as big and strong as himself.

Does Johnson land anything against Johnson?

A snarling Dempsey looks across the ring at a snarling Dempsey.

How long would Baer survive Baer?

    Or Louis Louis?

What about Marciano, Liston, Ali, Holmes, etc.

    Does Tyson bite Tyson?

    Or Holyfield butt Holyfield?

Will Lewis open up against himself?

And which is the best matchup? And which is the worst?

Johnson would probably draw the color line against himself.

Max Baer vs Baer is interesting, probably an exciting fight. For it's sustained action, not boxing skill. I suspect the first 3-4 rounds would look a lot like Louis-Baer, with downgraded handspeed and combinations, but more ebb and flow type of action. Things will probably go a bit slower from there on, perhaps going to a 15 round decision or perhaps a cut stoppage.

The Tyson fight would be a nice one too, if not only to see how he does against a skilled heavyweight just as short as himself. Might turn into a foulfest, MAD.

Lewis and Louis probably knock themselves out. Do Steward and Blackburn get cloned as well? If not, the Steward-Lewis might box from a distance , while the other one tries to make it a fight. Seeing how Lennox almost always fought aggressive against big opponents, it would probably be a Lewis-Klitschko-like fight.

As for the "don't hook with a hooker", Frazier vs Frazier would be interesting. Whoever keeps the right glove up consistently should win it. I doubt this one goes the distance.

I think you would end up with some really freakish fights.

For example I think that Dempsey v Dempsey would turn into a boxing match. Dempsey's excellent footwork would make it ver difficult for Jack to find those opening he needs for those devastating shots and as we saw versus Willard, Dempsey likes to pick his spot when he is with a dangerous opponent. This could get quite dull & a draw is not out of the question.

Johnson v Johnson would be a really aggressive confrontation with each man hurting the other badly on the inside.

Marciano v Marciano would produce a clean winner by KO - the first one to get seriously cut, wins.

Corbett v Corbett would finish by way of violent KO as both Corbett's lose their cool in a dramatic fashion as each is unseated by the intolerable ignorance of the other.

Jeffries v Jeffries would be ruled a NC after police interupt it in the 83rd round.

The only one I am now certain of is Liston vs Liston. This one will end in a DQ when each is blinded by the foreign substance on the gloves of the other and the more blinded accidentally corners the referee and puts him away with a twelve punch barrage.

You know what Q, I think Liston may have been fleet enough to ditch his own jab. With his formidable body punching that one could become really, really brutal. The winner might be the guy to break a rib.

I don't know what Suzie will say, but I agree that Liston vs Liston strikes me as likely to be really, really brutal.

    This is your best prediction.

When Johnson couldnt figure out joe Jeanette he fouled him and lost by DQ.

Quite Possibly it could turn into a liston vs liston slugfest like liston-williams..........

Vitali Klitschko vs Vitali Klitschko- One will postpone the fight 4 times and the other one will retire then come back. 4 years later the fight takes place..... during the fight Vitali is up on Vitali with only one round to go and he quits on his stool prompting the other vitali the winner.

One thing we can say for sure; Marciano vs Marciano would end up deciding once and for all the question, "just who could actually beat Marciano."

Of course it could end up in a draw. Were that to happen, we would be forced to conclude that if Marciano can't beat himself, nobody else can either :)

Tyson would probably try to eat himself....
