    Rigondeaux-Donaire fits I think.

As a proposed matchup many thought the natural size advantage, hand speed and huge power would be enough for Nonito to ride roughshod over Rigo or at least make the fight a pick'em encounter (if Rigo was as good as advertised that is). I don't think many would have predicted the one sided schooling that Guillermo put on Donaire had the bout not actually occured.

Roy Jones Jr vs James Toney. I don't think anyone would have expected RJJ to have such an easy time against a master boxer like Toney at that time. Had they not fought people would have thought Toney would given Jones fits.

Had Floyd Patterson and Ingo fought only the first time, I doubt anyone would cal for the reversal in the rematch — we would all assume Ingo had too much power for Floyd.

Similarly, had the Brown Bomber never rematched Schmeling I can see all the “Max is just a nightmare matchup for Joe” posts.
