Hey all, I'm new to this forum so apologies if this has been asked a million times, but I was wondering which boxer most resembled Rocky Balboa? obviously no one can surely take the punishment he took, but style wise nd ability to take a punch etc is there anyone?

Thanks for the info championsForever...I have seen the wepner ali footage, i kno some consider ali to have slipped, i guess an argument can be made as he had an ATG chin in my opinion, but seems like it was genuine. Gatti was one of the most entertaining fighters i've seen, but was lacking a bit at higher levels. How bout marciano, anyone see any similarities?

Gerry Cooney! Hands down, they even have a picture of Cooney and Stallone (posed as Rocky) next to each other.

Ali was toying with Wepner the entire time. At no point was the fight even remotely competitive. And upon review, the "knockdown" of Ali was really a slip.

This is somewhat true, but while toying with Wepner, Chuck was able to land blows...this wasn't Ali's greatest moment, and Wepner was not supposed to get as far as he did.

The Rocky idea was inspired by a real fighter. Sly got the idea for the film after watching an Ali fight where he gave his opponent a pasting but had great heart - cant remember which one it was.

Here's a bit of info on Rocky, if anyone hadn't heard before but one of the choices to play the role of Apollo Creed was Ken Norton. Stallone went with Carl Weathers after Carl and Sly had a small scuffle while Carl was trying out for the role. Weathers had no idea that it was Stallone's movie, figuring he was just another actor or something around that. Also before the film was sent into production (I'm guessing that's what happens, I'm not a movie person) the producers thought Perry King was who sent the script in and to be the character of Rocky. He played alongside Stallone in Lords of Flatbush...and when they found out it wasn't King but the "other guy" aka Stallone, they hesitated on making the film.
