Seeing so many dumb threads, which is typical of this site. At least he's getting a lot of attention through being on people's minds. Golovkin imo is the best MW in the world and he's the best in the world through the old wisdom of "if you've got to avoid something, you're hiding something". He's plowing through opponents, he shows great technical skill and the rest of MW obviously doesn't want him and other trainers and promoters of those fighters also don't want their people to tangle with him. So everyone saying he's not a big deal is going against a collective of actual boxing people that know he's a big deal. Let's let that die. Though he's an elite fighter and the best MW, it's not time to move to SMW and he's not ever going to beat a guy like Andre Ward, who for all intents and purposes should be considered the best fighter in the world P4P. Ward calling him out and wanting him to move up before he's even had a chance to clean MW(which then that would be a great showdown), is erroneous because Ward himself has already cleared out SMW save for 1 or 2 more matches and needs to be thinking about moving up to LHW. If Ward doesn't move up to LHW, but wants MWs to move up to him, then he will then deserve to be criticized for that despite the fact that he's a rarity that's totally cleaned out a division in modern boxing. I think outside of Ward, 3G would be one of the best at SMW. He's obviously to be favored over any MW alive, but his ceiling in my eyes rests at the MW level, which he makes very comfortably and could easily routinely cut to 157-158. Future P4P no. 1? No. Best fighter in boxing? Not even close. Best at MW being ducked by a bunch of yellow, disgraceful, unfortunately weak era? A resounding and inarguable YES. Let's hope yellow Martinez gets in the ring and hands the torch over after he KOs little shot Cotto so we can see another division properly cleaned within a growing boxing climate of great new talent.
Too bad he could not have started his career trained by Abel Sanchez and promoted by K2. He would have been two years ahead of his current career path.
I agree. GGG should stick to 160 and fighting fighters at 160. His team should stfu though about beating anybody up to 175 though if they don't actually intend on proving it
I don't think we've seen enough from Ward or GGG to pick a winner in that fight. Ward has handled 2nd tier guys, but he hasn't conquered an all time great. He has lost rounds and looked vulnerable to lower class opponents. Golovkin has handled 3rd tier (being generous) but hasn't even fought 2nd tier. Given the styles, and watching them fight, I actually favor Golovkin. The reason I say that is because Golovkin has good defense, and the best offense in the sport. Ward has great defense, and great offense, but his defense isn't good enough to not get hurt by Golovkin, and his offense isn't good enough to dominate. Ward looks great against guys he can outsmart, he isn't going to outsmart Golovkin, I see Golovkin as the smarter fighter. GGG does what ward does but only better, in other words Ward is going to get forced into fighting GGG's fight. Ward doesn't have the reach, power, accuracy, or chin to trade shots, and GGG will make sure Ward has to trade shots. Ward is going to find it tough to man handle Golovkin, even though he is slightly taller and heavier, GGG is really strong and balanced. You never see guys trying to clinch Golovkin, they learn quick that he can hurt them and out wrestle them.
You started so well Then you said this "Future P4P no. 1? No. Best fighter in boxing? Not even close. " Sober up
I'd agree that we haven't seen enough from GGG, but from Ward? We haven't seen enough from someone who's the consensus second best P4P fighter int he world? :rofl Ward has cleaned out his division and done so in dominant fashion. He is vastly more proven than Golovkin.
There is no reason to believe he would NOT be able to beat Ward in the future, or be the best fighter in the sport. A solid case can already be made for him already being close to the latter. MW is not in as bad a state as some claim. With a competent ref anyone can see that Ward is beatable, but GGG has shown no cracks in his game at all.
1 He looks great 2 Recent opponent wasnt that good 3. Martinez is the champ and he has to force the issue
Ward calling out Golovkin is perfectly legit considering Golovkin said he would fight ANYONE from 154-158.
If MW is weak what does that make SMW? The #2 SMW in the world nearly got blasted out by a 24 year old club fighter from the UK.
You really have to believe that Kessler and Froch are all time greats to rank Ward so highly. I don't see Kessler and Froch as that special. RJJ, JC, BHop, those guys were special, and Ward hasn't beaten anyone that good. I think GGG cleans out MW every bit as convincingly as Ward did SM.
That he did. He was fast tracked for ATGness, no doubt But something happened on the way to ATGreatness.... Guy dominated Super 6, became an instant P4Per. But ever since - wtf is he doing?!? He should've been chasing guys like Stevenson and Kovalev - he would've tooled Stevenson and give the Siberian monster hell But what did he do instead?? He just sat back and did nothing! It's almost as if he doesnt realize hes arguably the best boxer on the planet! :nut
