Do you see JCC Jr at the same level or greater than Sergio's best opponents?

    Ranking the opposition, I'd go:

    Williams I
    Williams II
    Pavlik

    Macklin/Dzinziruk

    Cintron
    Barker

Chavez Jr would slide into one of the open spaces above or behind Macklin/Dzinziruk on my list. Oddly enough, he struggled most against Barker (and Williams I, obviously). I did not share the same sentiment as the judges in the Macklin fight, I thought Sergio was up before that monster 11th round.

Hard to say. I personally believe Williams was on the slight decline when he fought Sergio the second time (not saying it affected the result or anything), and Pavlik was obviously a shadow of his former self and didn't react too well to that cut which I remember thinking was a big turning point in the fight.

Chavez may not be as good as those guys (well, at least not Pavlik anyway), but he's got the size and strength that Williams was lacking, and the youth and determination which Pavlik was obviously missing. So with that combined, yeah, I can see him putting up a comparable challange that those two did. But if I was to rank, I think it'll end up going the following:

    1. Williams I
    2. Chavez
    3. Pavlik
    4. Williams II

I will note that Pavlik was actually doing really well in the middle rounds. I thought he turned things around and was under control and could have been on his way to being first on the above list, or even winning. But has mentioned, that cut turned the tide massively and ensured an easier night for Sergio.

    Good posts guys.

I feel JCC Jr would be above Dzin because Dzin is really a 154lber and JCC Jr is a fairly heavy MW.

I think Sergio will win a clear to wide UD or late ref stop, wish I could watch it, will have to make do with canelo vs lopez.

don't see Chavez working the body of Martinez if he's on the move, I see him getting hit with those left hands of Sergio consistantly, to me, Sergio is too fast for Chavez, the guy was getting hit by Rubio and Lee, won't be a walk in the park for Martinez, somewhat like the Macklin fight, but I see him beating down Chavez, possibly stopping him late

Jr. will wear pushing-40 Martinez down. He'll get the postage stamp-sized ring he always demands, and he'll somehow fail to take a drug test after the fight. Go figure. That's boxing.

They are both massively under rated boxers, in particular Barker.

I think there's two ways of thinking regarding the Pavlik fight. Either you believe that Pavlik turned it around or Martinez stepped his foot off the gas. I've always thought that it was Martinez who simply stopped throwing his punches rather than anything in particular that Pavlik did.

There's been a couple of times in his career where Martinez's workrate has dipped. I know it dropped against Cintron and the first Williams fight, and in the 9th round against Pavlik, Martinez came back and threw 90 shots, over 30 more than he'd thrown in the previous rounds. It was a very sudden increase that I think happened because he had slowed down to preserve stamina. Against Macklin, he was throwing around 30 punches per round until the 9th when he started throwing over 50 a round. That's a big increase percentage wise and it makes Martinez a much more threatening fighter.

Sadly for Martinez, however, I don't think he's doing this out of laziness but because he has stamina issues. He's not got bad stamina but I don't think he's able to fight at 55 punches a round for 12 rounds. That's good news for Chavez though because he is immensely fit and when Martinez takes rounds off, as I expect him to do around the 6th, Chavez will be turning on the pressure. If he lands too many body shots, Martinez may be found wanting when he tries to up his workrate in the last third of the fight.

Should be a good one though :good
