Realistically... Which UK fighter from 140-154 could test Mayweather?

With a good strategy and a lot of jabs i think Khan could run floyd pretty close actually

 

Agreed. If he makes Floyd lead at some times Khans fast feet and hands would see him do well.

Basically, on workrate alone Khan will trouble him. He's nowhere near as good as Floyd but from a technical standpoint he has the attributes to worry Floyd.

I do believe Floyd has it in him to open up though; as Khan isn't a big banger, I think Floyd wouldn't worry and would put him away from the mid rounds onwards. Also, if Khan won his fans would immediately put him in the top 10 of all time and I don't know if I could put up with the stress of having to debate them back down to Earth

what are we counting as "testing" Mayweather?

Winning 4 rounds? 5 rounds? Split decision?

for any of those, there is no one.

I can see Khan giving him a hard couple of rounds, then being outboxed till Floyd KO's him.

No-one else even gives him 2 difficult rounds.

 

There is no-one that could beat him. Khan & Olusegun would be the only two that could be in there & give him a fight for 12.

Anyone know what the hell is happening with Olusegun??

 

Top Dog is right i'm afraid, Khan might nick a round here and their like Ricky did but the KO would be inevitable and probably very early. Khan maybe nicks round one, by round two Floyds worked him out and by round three Khan is gone.

 

I agree Khan might win round 1 and 2. Just on loads of jabs and handspeed, even a washed up Hoya gave Mayweather some trouble by pushing him back with a long, slow left jab. In truth a tall fighter with a good jab i.e. not Corrales who can't spell jab has always been Mayweather's problem opponent IMO.

But as soon as Mayweather gets a grip on Khan's rhythm and movements which are quite robotic and not at all unpredictable, only fast, the timing will come. When the timing comes Mayweather has so many weapons in his arsenal Khan won't even see the punches that deck him.

It really comes down to whether you give more credence to a guy that can lose by KO but win a few rounds or a guy that can go the distance as a punching bag. We have a few that could fill this role but truthfully none would 'test' Mayweather because they aren't good enough to do so.

Hamed was a great, so was Benn. If your including Calzaghe you must include them two.

 

Disagree on Benn, even though I much prefer him to Calzaghe.

Lewis and Hamed are our two genuine greats of the past quarter century. Then I think you can only include fighters who were number one in their divisions. For me that can only mean Calzaghe, Honeyghan and Hatton.

Of those three, I think honeyghan might actually have the soundest argument to being a great, but I don't think any of them quite make it.

He seemed quite happy with the ones that Medina was throwing at him. In fact Victor Polo also enjoyed many a pot shot at Harrison who got hit more in those two fights against sub maximal opposition then Hamed did in his career.

I like Harrison, a good fighter but he wasn't as good as Hamed.
