What happened to the crowd here on ESB that was

    * claiming one just has to "pressure Wlad and sooner or later he just falls apart"? Reality: It's not easy to pressure this version of Wlad. He has a great sense of keeping the distance and ties you up in close quarters. Anybody who wants to pressure Wlad has to get within range and be able to deal with the punishment.

    * saying how Chambers will "be in Wlad's face all night"? Reality: Chambers turned into survival mode after round two when the first huge right hammer wobbled him. As predicted, then Chambers subconsciously quickly went from trying to win the fight to trying to not lose by KO.

    * yapping how "Wlad will gas himself out because he has no stamina"? Reality: There are no punch stats that I could find, but Wlad was throwing power punches with reckless abandon for 12 rounds. Wlad was chasing "Fast" Eddie down in the later rounds as he just kept running away trying to survive. Chambers might have hoped that Wlad will tire himself out but he was dead wrong.

    * ripping Chagaev because "he didn't come to win, didn't even try to attack Wlad. Chambers will do much better". Yea right! Reality: Chagaev is a much more skilled and more experienced boxer than Chambers and still looked like crap against Wlad, just like Chambers.

The reality is that it is incredibly hard to beat this version of Wlad built by Manny Stewart. Note I am not saying impossible.

But IMO the proto type fighter to beat this Wlad needs a world-class punch plus good speed & accuracy and most importantly the rock solid chin to take temporary punishment as he attempts to get within range. Unfortunately, neither Chambers nor Povetkin come close to that description.

Sounds like you're describing a young, prime Mike Tyson. Unfortunately, for American fans Mike is fat and forty these days.

No-one worth listening to is saying that he'd lose to everyone from Monte Barrett up, but there are still very good reasons to believe that he just wouldn't stand up to a Frazier, a Tyson, a Louis etc. Actually, I think the Klitschko's very much get their dues H2H.

It is easy to beat Wladimir. All you have to do is be a great boxer who is immune to punches. Problem solved. Fight over. Easy payday.

As long as youve got good head head movement/fairly mobile with good solid power Wlad is there for the taking...
Chambers despite the ring name 'Fast' Had none of these.

Pulev has the skill and size but it'll be at least another 1 1/2 probably 2 years away before he'd be in line for a shot. He probably has the best chance as anyone imo.

    Good analysis right there.

What you're looking for to beat Wlad is firstly someone who isn't overwhelmed by the reach difference. Chambers did throw fast combos but he couldn't get beyond the body, and Wlad looked like he didn't even feel them.

The things you mentioned are obviously important (chin, speed, stamina), but Wlad is so good at maintaining a distance that either the smaller fighter is going to have to be much, much better than him, or somebody with similar reach.

A guy like Chambers could have power but it wouldn't be that effective if he can't even reach Wlad's chin.

wladimir doesn't suck, but the guy has a **** chin, he doesn't let his hands go, and he has **** survival skills when he's hurt. haye will knock him out. chambers was never going to beat wladimir, and whoever said he would doesn't know there boxing.

you need someone who is fast. you need someone who can move. you need someone who hits hard. you need someone who uses lateral movement to make wladimir miss. that is david haye. it would be nice if david had a good chin aswell, but he doesn't, but that doesn't worry me because i know he only needs to land one decent blow to get wladimir in trouble.

Lennox Lewis is the perfect fighter to beat Wlad.

joe frazier would do a number on wladimir. george foreman would tear his head off. earnie shavers has a real good punchers chance. anyone with a punch would cause him problems by just landing one punch. we'll see that if vitali lets his brother fight haye.

I agree. Lewis had a much better chin IMO than most give him credit for. He somehow survived the onslaught brought on by Briggs, took a bunch of bombs from Tua and swallowed many hands from Vitali.

It would take someone of the level of Lewis to routinely take apart this version of Wlad.

Haye has phenomenal handspeed and good accuracy, plus a very decent reach even at HW (if he decides to box tall). However, IMO his footwork is bad (read: doesn't mean he can't run quickly, it means his positioning is awkward, weakening his balance and defense), his chin isn't better than Wlad's. Obviously Haye has a chance for an upset, but I would still easily favor Wlad in a head to head match up.

And how easy is it to land that one punch against last night's Wlad? It doesn't help if one has the punch of King Kong if you can't properly get within range without getting tagged and distracted.
