Made more than what Pac made in PPV buys fighting Morales when he fought none other than completely unknown Baldomir.

His fight with Hatton did nearly 1 million, Pac's fight with Hatton is like 100k below.

You shouldn't try to compare with Pacman here as far as PPV, etc.
Mayweather is American and Pacman isn't. Mayweather speaks perfect english, Pacman doesn't. These 2 factors alone give even more credit to Pacquiao for drawing so much from the biggest boxing market in the world.

Certain important factors explain why De La Hoya-Mayweather did so well :

1- De La Hoya's drawing power combined with the hope from non mainstream fans that he still has enough in the tank to beat the P4P #1.

2- An incredible marketing job done by the GBP team to bring on many new advertizers that would guarantee to date, the biggest promotional resources ever to promote a fight worldwide.

3- A new show created by HBO called 24/7 that drew anyone and everyone's attention on that fight. A new event, gig, show,etc. always draws more because of its novelty.

In regards to Hatton-Mayweather :

Hatton was still an unbeaten fighter and that fight got a lot of buzz, being some sort of an unofficial rivalry between the 2 sides of the Atlantic.

Hatton-Pacquiao & DeLaHoya-Pacquiao were fights right in the middle of a strong recession.

De La Hoya was thought to demolish Pacquiao, therefore it didn't have the same appeal at first.

Hatton already had a loss and the fight was between a Philippino and a Brit on American soil. Again not the same appeal for non regular boxing fans during a strong recession.

Bigger sized fighters normally get more buzz from non main stream fans, therefore Pacquiao is now getting that recognition because he is winning big fights but very much also because he is fighting boxers at higher weights.

Pacquiao needed to fight at a higher weight and win big fights to get most Americans on the band wagon, he did that now. I'm sure he now has at least the same drawing power than Mayweather in the States...
