I came to the conclusion that people keep putting GGG on par with guys who have already built an audience and they don't need Golovkin, its the other way around, Golovkin needs them. So far people have tried to pit him against the KING of doing things his way, Floyd Mayweather, to no avail. What would Floyd gain by draining and fighting GGG after breaking the combat sports bank with Manny? Next you guys attempted to see if Manny Pacquiao would would move up to 154 again for a GGG fight. Again what does he gain by doing this? Another possible title, history, how much money will HBO pay for a mismatch, $100 million? I don't think so. Now you guys are dead set on him fighting Canelo which is great, but realize that Canelo can fight 2x in 2017 and neither fight can be against Golovkin. He could fight Chavez Jr. in May and Billy Joe Saunders in September and vice-versa. Who will GGG be fighting after Jacobs is a mystery. Maybe Johnson, Khurtsidze, ??? I understand the politics involved with GGG ,and you understand them also. Canelo has the fanbase and notoriety to skip over Golovkin for the next 2 years if he pleases. We can rant and rave about it but, remember what happened from 2010 until 2015? 5 years of whining got you the most boring $100 dollars ever spent. As for Kovalev trying to rile up Andre Ward it is futile. Ward is not an emotional fanboy that get worked up by schoolyard tactics. He is a professional and it seems that Kovalev has devolved into a caveman with his ranting and crying about losing to Ward. He is calling him names on the TV and social media like some deranged teenager. The man is over 30 years old acting like a fool. Ward wants more money and Main Events are going to have to find it if they want Kovalev to "TRY" get his belts back from Ward. If they don't pay, Ward will retire and "TYSON FURY" the titles all over the LHW scene. What does he have to lose? He des not have the biggest fanbase, HBO is very critical of him, and he has millions of dollars saved up because he is very conservative. This is no Adrien Broner type of guy, he is smart. So quit trying to make it like Kovalev or boxing will affect Ward when its all over, the only thing moving is the money. Have a Merry Christmas, Hanukkah , Kwanzaa and whatever and a Happy New Year!
Oh I think Kovalev gained a lot of fans from that night and that includes many Ward fans,I agree there's no point in him disputing the decision but Kovalev boxed beautifully that night. As for Canelo and GGG what's you're reason for not wanting the fight to happen,do you think it's a mismatch? I believe it will be an awesome fight esp if GGG beats Jacobs and Canelo beats Saunders?
Only person talking since their fight has been Ward, like a snake oil salesman trying to sell a pitch to people about their fight. It was a close fight, I had it 115-112 if I remember correctly to SK. There is a rematch clause already worked out, SK wants it Ward should honour it, although Ward doesn't come across as the honourable type.
In a way yes, however ggg needs Canelo to transcend him to a household name, so far he is a hardcore superstar. Without a Canelo win, ggg might never seen 8 figures the way things are going. 10m 15m is just a figure, it doesn't matter what it is. For his best interest he should somehow secure the fight.
Didn't he get like, 8 for Brook? It was either 5 or 8. He's gotten more popular since then. It would behoove him to get this fight, but I wouldn't even say that he really needs it. In a way you could argue that Canelo needs this more for pride since Golovkin made Canelo look like a straight up ***** with the whole title thing.
I think Canelo v GGG will happen in September wether Oscar truly wants his guy to fight is a mute point but I believe social media and the fans backlash for him and the belt has forced their hand in this which is a good thing even though some Canelo fans don't fancy it at least with a possible Saunders and Chavez fights they're not pretending to be junior middleweights anymore?
For legacy and for pride, yes. What Oscar and Canelo did seems like a ***** move. It just that it seems nowadays pride and legacy take a back seat. Money comes first. I am hoping ggg is cut from a different cloth, however so far the evidence shows otherwise. I am no Canelo fanatic btw.
I think the same thing actually. Either at the end of 2017 or early 2018. It depends on when Canelo fights again. I doubt he wants to go straight to Golovkin so I imagine he takes some fight at 160 proper in the meantime. Probably against BJS since he was just made mando for some dumb reason. If Saunders fights the way he did in his last fight I really like Canelo's chances in that bout.
Yeah it's a shame. It's like the fighting spirit is dying among the fighters. I have faith in Golovkin's pride. Trying to get all of the belts and dominate a division is a pretty tough task. Sure, it is taking longer than we all want and we'd love to see him move up and fight opponents there, but he never made it a secret that he wanted to unify the MW division.
