Even with a low buy-rate, they must make more money than a Showtime or Versus slot. It's unfortunate if that's the case as it is a HOPELESSLY short-sighted strategy. But if promoters don't like the money they get from tv, they'll try it themselves. Dumb in the long run,

In effect, it's a pure recognition of boxing as a niche sport. Why try to spread the name of Solis/Johnson when a bit of short-term money can be made as the "true fans" will know about the winner even if they do not buy the PPV. It's an admission that building a wider fan base just isn't worth the money. Stupid and a shame, but seems to be the case.
