Maidana is overrated in terms of one punch power, he's not the absolute beast some think, on the other hand, his skill level is underrated because being so defensively flawed, most fans stop looking into his arsenal thinking there's nothing there. He has good adaptability, nice timing, a crisp jab when works it, mixes up punches well and puts on solid pressure. These are boxing skills too. You don't come up with hard headsnapping right hands if you can't find that hole in Ortiz' game, you don't time a quick and flashy fighter with a perfect body shot if you can't read Victor Cayo, and you certainly don't come close stopping Kotelnik if you don't see what kind of pressure and angles can get through that guard, just ask Devon Alexander. Maidana is still going to get outboxed for the mistakes and defensive holes he has unless there's a serious improvement in his game (that would require a top trainer and still no guarantee of becoming complete), but if he keeps knocking them out, people will start to give his skills more credit.
it's just a pet peeve of mine that people have perversed the word boxer to mean a certain style of boxing rather than just anyone who participates in the sport of boxing.
Let me clear this up. I'm not saying that Maidana is a technical wizard that boxes on the outside. I'm saying that Maidana is just as intelligent but merely applies what he knows to a different style. This is evidenced by his almost uncanny sense of timing, and distance. Thats one reason I like Maidana. He will give you the feeling that you can comfortably box him. Then its over. And it doesnt take long:yep
The sport is boxing, so yeah they are all classed as boxers...but I think there can be many definitions for the different styles. The straight forward definition for a boxer though is the one you stated.
Agreed! It pisses me the **** off that just because Maidana chooses to knock people the **** out rather than do a khan, be on his bike for 12 rounds and bore the crowd to tears with jab and run, jab and run...that maidana gets dismissed as a poor boxer who would get outclass by these "boxers". Its also unfair that the guy has limitd oppertunities to win belts and earn big money all because frightened queers like Kon dont wanna runble with him
Yet for some reason you made an appearance:huh Hopefully your boy Khan grows a set of balls and fights his mandatory:yep
Maidana I feel could come out on top at the 140 scene. He can hurt all of the other top guys. Khan i feel would outbox from range fairly easily, but it might only take one good shot from maidana to win that one. I am not big on alexander's chin, Kotelnik wore Reyes gloves against khan and everlast against Alexander, and he seemed to effect and hurt Alexander more than he hurt khan. Bradley has been put on ***** street before , and maidana could put him away too. I give the best chance to beat maidana to Bradley , based on his movement , speed and boxing ability. I hope we get to see this 140lb tourney.
