    It's real simple.

    1) Overtraining

    2) Nutrition

You see, the body doesn't regenerate as quickly as you age than it did when you were younger. Honestly, it's amazing Floyd has gone this long and far with his training regiment.

But the fact is, he trains too hard and he leaves too much in training camp. That's the difference between him and Bernard Hopkins, who is actually the more skilled fighter out of the two of them, but admittedly, less physically gifted.

In addition to that, Floyd's nutrition is not what it should be. That's why his muscles are not recycling at the rate they could be and why he's appearing to rapidly age before our eyes. He could reverse this if he were to take a different approach to training and nutrition, but his inability to read puts him at a significant disadvantage.

Not only that, but his camp is full of "yes men" that will do and tell Floyd whatever they believe he wants to hear. The fact that Maidana seemed to mentally deterioriate in the late rounds, which allowed Mayweather to gain some distance, (along with Kenny Bayless assistance), likely means that Mayweather won't learn a thing.

This of course, is going to lead to his inevitable ass beating at the hands of Manny Pacquaio, assuming of course Manny gets past Algeri and Floyd man's up and signs the fight.

And it will be a thing of beauty.

They need to label the fight, "RETRIBUTION."

Training is a good shout. IMO, Floyd tends to train hard, not smart.

Why does a defensive master (key word is master) need to train 3-4 times a day at his age for? It doesn't make sense. His output is minimal and his game is to avoid getting hit...

So why train like a manic if you're already at that age where you're not going to get better?

I have NEVER came across an athlete of his calibre who still trains like a fighter from the 1950's. Get the with the programme - Take up Triathlon-style training (but cut down on the running), lose the sit-ups, get a modern s&c programme... Dude has it all wrong.

I think it's boredom. OK, so he makes another $40 million - What will he do? Add it to the pile? He has NO goal. I don't even think 50-0 is on his radar in all honesty...

He is 47-0, on the wrong side of 30, aging each fight.
Yet still Floyd is a class above.
Whatever he is doing is working, he was dominant last night.
There are some things Floyd needs to change, but most of us wouldn't know how to change them.

Has it all wrong yet he's still at the top of the sport aged 37?

When has he ever looked tired in a fight?

Can't have it 'all wrong' can he...

He's gone from having breaks off, to fighting twice a year. He'll stay in shape but not graft in the gym now for a good few months. A lot of distractions out of the ring recently as well.

He pissed it against Maidana last night and beat him 9-3 the fight before, the same Maidana arguably coming off the best win of his career.

And it's that mentality that's going to get his ass BEAT by Pacquaio.

And you'll see it. Assuming the fight gets made of course.

With his money and modern methods he'd look even better.

Again, his out put is VERY minimal. If his output is minimal, and he is a defensive fighter, what are the chances of him tiring?

Not only that, but Maidana also looked like he overtrained. He looked very weak in that fight.

It's feasible that without his training routine, Mayweather would totally go off the boil and that he just uses it to keep some structure in his life.

It's a good point seeing as he doesn't drink, smoke etc.

I'm a fan of how dedicated he is to his craft, his work ethic etc. But you can't train like an 18 year old when you're 37 without it causing your problems. :good

I think for Mayweather to keep it together this well for 18 years is pretty impressive. Love him or hate him he does work extremely hard. I think he overtrained for this fight and he probably needs to cut back on the running a little. Like stated before the problem is he doesn't know he needs to change.

Mayweather may be slowing down but right now it's insignificant. What needs to slow down is this over analyzing of the man. It is what it is and Pac is not the one.

Well obviously age is the # 1 factor.

The overtraining point is actual very interesting and is quite possibly valid. Before the fight, he mentioned several times during many pre-fight interviews that his training has changed a bit now from his younger years. Now if he feels like he can't give 100% in training he'll just stay home and rest for an extra day. It seems like he's taking more time to recuperate now while he's in training which is good for him.

I've mentioned in several other threads that Maidana's style will give a technical boxer problems because he'll put the pressure on you for most of the fight- usually around close to 2 minutes per round he'll be throwing clubbing shots.

I think it was just the style that made Mayweather look dicey at times. He looked great against Alvarez and Guerrero, I'd imagine if he ends up taking on any other style outside of Maidana's for his next fight he'll probably look more dominant.
