Pick up Dempsey's book "Championship Boxing" and read about how punch power is generated.

Anyone who wants to see a good display of Froch's jab needs to google the Porras fight; he established a thudding up jab early on in that fight.

And to everyone saying Froch is a rangey fighter... FYI, Taylor's got the longer reach.

I keep seeing this argument popping up and think we need to kill it now before it starts picking up momentum.

    1. Froch is NOT a better boxer than Pavlik. A slow, awkward guy like Pavlik didn't make it as far as he did without a good amount of skill. He may have been outboxed by Hopkins and lack some variety in his game, but Pavlik is very sound fundamentally and is very good at what he does.

    2. Styles make fights. Pavlik beat Taylor by pumping his jab and following it up with right hands; this is what enabled the KO in the first fight and what outpaced and outpointed Taylor in the 2nd. Pav also fought tall and with his hands up, making him a hard target for the shorter Taylor. Froch isn't nearly as orthodox as Pavlik, doesn't have the workrate, doesn't keep his hands up, and doesn't fight tall.

Trying to glean anything about how Froch matches up against Taylor by looking at how Pavlik matched up against Taylor is a waste of time.

It's possible on weight of punches, as Froch is very very open, and very slow, whereas Taylor has good handspeed to take full advantage.

It is however unlikely, certainly by one single "short punch" as Fitz calls it. Taylor has never shown that ability, against junior middles, middles or super middles.
