--- 1) Cotto is easier to negociate. If Mayweather negociates with Pacquiao, it will take time. They both want 50-50. Cotto will probably be ok with less. 2) Cotto has already beat Mosley. 3) Cotto doesn't have plans for 2010. Pacquiao wants to run for congressman in his country. 4) Cotto is a welterweight in his prime. He does not come from the featherweight division, like Pacman, and he isn't 38 years old, like Mosley.
IMO, if Cotto beats MP, he won't be easy to negotiate with. Cotto will claim that he beat the #1 P4P king and he deserves at least a 50/50 share of the purse. As for Mosley, he's desperate for a mega-bucks fight. He'll settle for less than what Cotto would demand.
It's true. Between Mosley, Pac and Cotto, Mosley is the easier one to negociate with. But the disadvantage of fighting him is that he's 38 years old, and Cotto already beat him.
As a matter of fact, Mosley @ 38 yrs. old is an advantage for FMJ. A prime Cotto who just beat Pac (if it does happen) would be much more dangerous.
Cotto beat Mosley by decision but it was an extremely close fight. I don't think Cotto has the defensive skill to neutralize Pacquiao's hand and foot speed like Mayweather. Cotto has to do a lot wrestling and hope to wear down the smaller man in the later rounds. He can NOT go toe to toe with Pac-Man, if he does then he will get knocked out just like Ricky Hatton did.
As a Pac fan, of couse I'll be rooting for Pac. That being said, I know MP likes to go toe to toe in his fights. In this case, I don't think that would be a good idea. Cotto ain't Hatton. Cotto can punch harder and has a good chin. He's been known to weigh 158-160 come fight time. MP will be better off if he does his in and out, weird angle fighting style. Just like what he did in the ODLH fight.
Pac must win for the sport to capitalize on perhaps the biggest grossing boxing event of all time which of course is 'Pacquiao vs Mayweather.' If Cotto losses he still rematch Margarito which figures to be a big fight in its own right.
