I feel gutted for Enzo, Calzaghe has a retired and it was his chance to take over as the Welsh hero. From what I have heard his preparation was poor questions over his weight and his sparring. Earlier there was a question whether he would go down to 175, but that appears unlikely now, and a move to heavy would is doubtful with his chin. Therefore I would like him back at cruiser, but this time better prepared and start with a domestic belt. A comeback against Lee Swaby should avenge his first defeat, and then Rob Norton for the British & Commonwealth shoud gage where his level truly is. Hopefully he could push on from there. He should be busy after a short break.
Swaby is fighting at Heavyweight these day's, If Maccarinelli is going to get back to Title winning form then he should hot tail it over to the wildcard gym and work on his defense.
I agree. Starting from scratch like you say is respectable. Avenging his defeat then going against Norton are good fights and he should win both or retire. Then he is ready to look for serious fights again.
I think he would probably beat Ola in a rematch tbh but that will be mentally hard. Just goes to show it doesnt matter what nick your in if you shoot your load too soon looking for a KO your gon come unstuck.
guys you are being very unfair on enzo as a coach, correct me if im wrong but hes coached the best boxer britan has ever produced in joe! a few results against him and people are pointing the finger a joke.american coaches arent better than our own there just higher profile because of tv ect.
I said all along he was an overrated jounrneyman with a padded record and an egg chin. Talk of him going to 175 then we have other Maccarinelli nuthuggers suggesting he was weight drained at 200 odd lbs the other night atsch
He needs to rebuild...fight Norton for the Brit and Comm. titles, maybe look towards a Euro title shot against Huck. As Huck leaves himself wide open Enzo should win that one (unless he lets himself get tagged!). Then he can think about world titles again, no point jumping in at the deep end again if you're not ready for it. Also would be a good idea for him to do some research on his opponent and get some sparring in before a big fight. I find it incredulous given the fact he'd only fought 2 rounds since Haye last March that Enzo wouldn't do his homework in his opponent or make sure he'd done the necessary sparring - how long has he been a pro again?
I dont think blaming the trainer is fair.Calzaghe guided him to a world title and was in the corner when he beat some good fighters.Enzo probably lacked motivation,he has been messed about a lot since the Haye fight.I hope he can come back from this loss as i think he still has a lot to offer.I dont think changing trainers is a good idea.
