Let's talk about the boxers from the last few years who supposedly had zero chance and ended up either A) winning or B) impressing the audience in defeat by doing better than expected.

Just remember that I do NOT like many of these guys, especially Brewster and Tarver because they beat my favorite fights in Vlad and RJJ. But I just want to see a list.

    1) Vlad vs Brewster I: Brewster had ZERO chance-- until Vlad passed out and the ref stopped it because he looked comotose.

    2) RJJ vs Tarver II: We all know what happened here. You might want to throw RJJ vs Tarver I in there too, because that was close.

    3) Paul Malignaggi vs Cotto: Cotto has KO'ed EVERYONE he fought in a title fight and Paul went the distance AND won about 5-6 rounds. Everyone said that Cotto would CRUSH Paulie, but that didn't happen at all, and it was more of a victory for Paulie than anything else.

    4) McCline vs Peter: Same scenerio. I expeted McCline to lose and lose big. Maybe even get KTFO. WTF, was my reaction to the THREE knockdowns.

Not really saying that anything could happen in a specific fight, or that Hatton is going to massacre Floyd. I just want to see some interesting results that I might not have heard of or listed here.

I would say Peter-Toney I. The general consensus that I had heard was that Peter was a crude slugger and that an aged Toney would outbox him.

To a degree, I suppose Peter-Toney II. The poll on TV had the majority picking Toney by knockout (which made little sense) or Toney by decision. The smallest group of people in that poll picked Peter by decision.

Toney DID outbox him. Clearly. It's terrible because that was Toney's chance and he won, then he got old or unmotivated for the second fight and lost that clearly... where he should have only had to fight once. All the steam went out after the first one where he was disappointed with a robbery. Just terrible.

McCline - Peter: Peter was floored three times. What a surprise to see a "feather fisted" fighter floor a "granite chinned" fighter that much.

Griffin - Sturm: Nobody gave Griffin a chance in hell, but I thought that he could give Sturm a rough time, and he almost won! I put some vcash on the draw, and it paid out big time :deal

Zuniga - Oganov: Calzaghe is to Lacy as Zuniga is to Oganov. Enough said.

Joel Casamayor - Acelino Freitas: Everybody believed Casamayor would bet Freitas. I remember people saying : Freitas has just a right hand and nothing else.

That's a reach though. People will always say "so and so will beat so and so badly" whenever there's a fight of reasonably big magnitude.

For the most part, it was looked upon as a good fight and Miranda was a slight favorite.

That's crazy man. No one really expected Paulie to win. I think maybe all the Italian writers favored their boy, or something.
