Some boxing journalist (I think it was Steve Kim) tweeted the other day that the WBA light middleweight champ was looking fat in a photo posted on Fightnews, and called him "Miguel Bloato". This is the most recently posted pic of him in the FN archives. This content is protected He doesn't look all that out of shape for being in-between camps. AFAIK, he doesn't have anything scheduled right now so looking as he does here (apparently from mid-October) is perfectly acceptable. Does anybody know what his training schedule is like during his downtime, or about what his walking around weight is usually (or now)?
To be fair to Steve, it was on Twitter and not in any published article. It's still a bit unprofessional - and, if that above is indeed what he was mentioning, inaccurate.
Again, he doesn't look miserably overweight. This is hardly Ricky Hatton territory. Also - Cotto KO1 Torres under any rules. :yep Cotto barely put anything on that first left hand and beat out MAT (who clearly gave it his all). That 2nd one where he slipped while throwing doesn't count.
Yeah he doesn't look massive...but he looks like he has been enjoying his food. I guess it shouldn't really have too much of an effect on him seen as he is fighting at the higher weight.
Perhaps it runs in the family? I read that his brother JM, started training at 196 for his next bout. For his height, that's rather heavy.
Interesting that his punch of choice is a left, I understand he is a left handed orthodox but still that must mean his power right isn't his sunday punch.
Of course he favors the left...have you ever seen Cotto? His right hand isn't stuffed with down or anything, but it's nowhere near the weapon his left is.
Stills it's funny to note neither of those fighters used a punch from a conventional stance, both were essentially haymakers, obviously neither man is gonna throw/land that punch from a safe guarded position especially without a great deal of luck/disregard from their opponent.
The difference is Torres really loaded up and stepped hard into his. Cotto just kind of balled up a fist and took a chop at the bag.
