In response to those who want to keep saying "it doesnt matter" The whole "they could have kicked your ass" excuse isnt valid. So what if they could have, it has no bearing on whether or not we are allowed to form opinions on them The "You couldnt have been a champion". Probably not, but could they have done what I do? By that logic, we should NEVER criticize anyone in politics, entertainment, sports, etc. That is completley inane, no one, regardless of position, is immune from comment and criticism The "they earned it" excuse isnt valid either. By that measure, doing any sort of hard physical work is somehow mandate to then live a completely unhealthy lifestyle afterwards and destroy one's body I find it insulting to athletes when former fighters let themselves go and become so unhealthy and obese. Im not demanding they stay in fighting shape. But to go from living the lifestyle of an elite athletic performer, and then throw away years worth of training and dedication and go in the completely opposite direction and live an hugely unhealthy lifestyle, that doesnt say much anything positive about the value you put on your body or your health.
I agree with everything up to this part. I don't think it has much to do with their believed body value. I think it has more to do with not having to run 40 miles anymore, not having to get yer skull bashed in in training and in fights and not having a nutrition guy to tell what you can and cannot eat. When they retire they just get like the rest of us. They don't have to work and can sit around all day and snack at free will. Again as Whatarock said, It's a little funny to express disgust in a fighter's health when they retire due to their profession in general
I hate how these ex boxers let themselves go after their career is over. It's always good to see ex boxers that stay in shape long after their careers have ended, guys like Hagler and SRL come to mind.
When I say body, I dont really mean in the aesthetic sense. I mean in the sense of that body-mind, you were a physical person that utilized your athletic to perform. And then you say **** it and get fat and cant even touch your toes. that is backwards
I agree...but to be honest? If I spent 15 years abusing my body by getting punched in the ribs and in the face, I'd be taking all the shortcuts I wanted come retirement. I'd be the fattest, drunkest guy on the entire East Coast

I love seeing retired fat fighters...they deserve it. Brings a smile to my face every time I see Tito with that round pudgy face at ever big PR fight. Enjoy it champ.
Woah, anyone accusing me of racism needs to calm that **** down. I thought he was Pakistani from all the times I saw him called it. And realize that Paki isn't derogatory in the US, nor was it meant that way....
I say he should enjoy his millions and eat whatever he wants. At least he ain't fighting in that kind of shape like many fighters are in America. He earned it.
My point is this, what is the joke in this? An older man who spent his youth at an unnaturally low competition weight is picking up weight? The joke please? Hahaha, he grew up? See this is where you and I see the world differently, you think this is part of being "human" I actually think it is the opposite. Do people do it? Sure. That doesn't make it "cool and acceptable". Then again guys like you think it is. Same as I wouldn't let a bunch of friends rip a dude past a point who wasn't standing with us. I am not really freaking out. I guess I am just from a different era and cut. I am all for a good joke or shooting the crap with the fellas. Me ripping alleged "*******s" and being ripped for being an alleged "*****" is all done in fun. Your example of Malignaggi would be fine. Now clowing Hulk Hogan for "walking funny"? Not so much. The Internet has made a bunch of snake mouthed anonymous chumps. E-bitches.
