As in you'll be going to a boxing gym after Christmas and want something at home to work on too? Free standing bags aren't worth the money mate, they're not nearly as good as a real heavy bag. Get a skipping rope and practice that and shadow at home instead. I'd hold on to that £150 as down the line eventually you'll need to pick up boxing boots which might run you about £50, a custom mouthguard is about £50, then decent gloves are hard to find below £50 too, and there's loads more gear. Most people borrow most everything from the gym to begin with, but the longer they're into it, the more of their own legit equipment they buy. First purchases will normally be handwraps, mouthguard, a pair of gloves (eventually two / one 16oz for sparring, one 10 or 12 for bags or pads) and boots. If you were super intent on splashing out, I work with someone who sells very high end world class custom boxing equipment but I wouldn't recommend it for starting out lol, but, msg if you would be interested in that.
You starting in a boxing gym? I'm from your neck of the woods. Just wondering, what one you might be trying?
consider a double end bag that you can hang in a doorway from a chin up bar. buy 2. fill one with the air bladder that's included, and put old clothes in the other to give it less bounce and a more solid connect.
