Blood is one thing but large part of shaping one's identity is growing up in a certain society, a certain culture. Slavs who grew up in one of the Slavic lands like me just have a different character and mindset than someone with Slavic ancestry who grew up somewhere in the USA. I mean look at that UFC fighter Stipe Miočić who behaves like a typical American (nothing wrong with him, it's just the way he is).

All my ancestry comes from a small region in Central Europe ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prekmurje ) where my Slavic ancestors first settled in the 6th century in the dark ages, went through middle ages as part of Hungarian Kingdom but preserved their Slavic language and identity and their region inside the Hungarian Kingdom was known as the "Slavic march", they survived the religious and social turmoil of the early modern age, fought the Turks and went through both world wars and the communist regime. We speak an archaic Slavic dialect that only around 100,000 people fully understand today. The official language of my country, Slovenian, is also a difficult archaic Slavic language with complex grammatical structures (one of the hardest languages in the world to learn) that only around 2 million people speak. My parents moved to the capital Ljubljana where I grew up in communist-style apartment blocks, just like many fighters from all over Eastern Europe. My nation is the westernmost outpost of the Slavic people and we had to fight off all of our non-Slavic neighbors (Italians, Germans and Hungarians), especially in the modern history.

For these reasons, I have a strong sense of my Slavic identity, even in this globalized world we're special and unique people with specific character. I know exactly who my people are and where we come from. The communist experience bonded the entire Eastern Europe together too. Also, it's just so fascinating how similar Slavic languages are. I just really love my heritage, for me it has never been about disliking other people or anything. We Slavs are just one big group of brothers and sisters who managed to get so much land for ourselves, stretching from cold Vladivostok to the warm Eastern Adriatic and from the Baltic sea to the Black sea. Who wouldn't be proud of that?

(White) Americans on the other hand live in a country that is essentially foreign to their ancestors and is constantly changing, they're constantly moving and new people are constantly arriving. On the other hand Slavic people like me live in countries where everywhere we look we see our churches, our castles, our monuments, our architecture and our culture that our ancestors built. The identity of White Americans revolves around some racial and social concepts, while in the case of Slavs our culture and identity is not only defined by blood but also by our traditions, shared common history (at least on a national level), language, music, art and spirituality.

America is just a country that is totally alien to me and I probably wouldn't like to live there. Although there are some good things too, at least they used to be, like the boxing culture and the big fights. Nothing wrong with White Americans, they just have a different type of identity and culture. If I moved to the USA my children would probably view the world totally differently than me and would have a totally different upbringing.
