The Spanish empire is not as recent as the former Soviet block. Also many of these countries gained their independence from Spain ~150 years ago and are no where near as ethnically or culturally cohesive as the former Soviet nations.

Eastern Europe has many Countries which have never been under Soviet Rule.
This isn't a Soviet satellite thing, this is a Eastern European thing.
Eastern Europe is very different from Western Europe.

Would you be offended if a "North Americans are coming" thread was made? Probably not.
The reason Eastern Europeans get grouped together is because they have a lot in common. From the former Soviet states to the Balkan countries.

Western Europe gets grouped together also due to its rich history.
Western Europeans such as myself don't feel offended by being called "Western European" because that's where our Countries are located.

 

Agreed completely with this. There's no domination just more diversity (I hate this word but here we go) in the game now, before it was mostly North America, now we got boxers from everywhere but there's no single dominating country or region for that matter.

Places like Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan are in Central Asia and are culturally and ethnically quite different to what most people consider "Eastern Europe"

 

Ethnic Russians make up the largest ethnic groups in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan while the official government language remains Russian and the sporting systems that cultivate their athletes were designed during Soviet times primarily by ethnic Russian sports scientists.

 

Ethic Russians make up very small minorities in both those countries
