Yes Tyson and marciano both did all they could.:good

I was answering robert ungurean who shares an often repeated maxim that Marciano only beat old guys where as I say if that is true then apart from berbick and smith, Tyson did not beat any champions who could still beat world class fighters when he fought them.

You did say Tubbs, Holmes and Thomas were less shop worn than Moore, walcott and charles and I would dispute that. worn out guys dont win at contender level. Those Tyson guys had already stopped beating world class fighters where as Marcianos guys all still were. Thats not Marciano or Tysons fault thats just how it is.

I'm not so willing to come off my stance on it, so how about this in meeting you half way: If they were more shop worn, they were certainly more experienced and skilled in addition to going through rated fighters prior to meeting Marciano. I think it definitely applies for Tubbs, Bruno, Thomas. The exception possibly being Holmes, whose skill and particular style lent it itself to getting off his and competing at a high level regardless of his inactivity. The version of Tyson he ran into was just too much. Again, it's a damn good thing for Mike's sake he decided to come back again in the 1990s or else we'd never know.

To flip the script a bit.

I've noticed how all of you guys want to try and talk about out of the ring affairs that would have caused Tyson's downfall. Laughable.

Tyson would have walked through Marciano's list. The racial tension at the time was enough to keep him angry and nutty all year round. He'd have eaten those men one by one.

But lets keep it in the ring, man for man, performance for performance.

Nearly everyone who beat Tyson would went through Marciano's list easily and retained a goose egg.

Holmes, Douglas, Tucker, Ruddock , Galota, McBride, Holyfield, Norris, Mathis Jr, Ruddock, Williams, Bruno, and Thomas ontop of beating Marciano would have beaten the exact men Marciano beat when Marciano beat them. Marciano couldn't have went undefeated against the men I named above.
It's silly to pose the question whether Tyson can beat Marciano's competition. Marciano didn't fight anybody and is famous for beating active old men.

Tyson was an absolute monster, he wasn't nearly as big as the TV made him look and he was in the ring against giants -most of whom- could box, he would have beaten Marciano's competition brutally and had Tyson been #1 challenger after Marciano finished dusting off Moore, Tyson would have eaten him for lunch.

    Don't kid yourselves.

Battling Levinsky and Fred Fulton are probably better than '51 Louis.

And Jack Sharkey might give old Charles a decent run.

Who on Tysons list would bother Marciano?

    A two year inactive Holmes?

Tubbs who was a career 1-1 against rated guys and put weight on so he could miss out on a bonus?

Thomas who (after rehab) had not beat a rated fighter since before Tyson turned pro?

Bruno who had one fight in a year and was coming off old bugner?

Spinks who lost to old holmes but got the decision then never fought or beat an actual heavyweight contender?

Tyrell biggs? Williams? Berbick? come on!! It works both ways.

Didn't you read the rest of his post ?
I must admit, it was hard to compute at first. Then the horror of what he was saying dawned on me.

    He's saying :

Buster Mathis Jr. would beat Marciano, AND duplicate all of Marciano's 49 wins, going 50-0 and world champion in that era.

    Kevin McBride too.

Forgive them, they know not what they do.

....If we grew up in the 1990s and didn't research other periods we would be the same.

I dont understant what your response Implies. I know Marciano beat these guys. Im saying If these same guys were in there prime that they would beat Rocky. Rocky is very fortunate he came along when he did because H2H theres alot of HW champs that beat him. If Dempsey-Tunney-Louis-Charles-Liston-Foreman-Ali-Frazier-Holmes-Tyson-Lewis-Holy all fought Marciano's opponents they would be 49-0

Tunney could perhaps do, I not so sure on Dempsey, he did lose to fighters pre prime, he was not suppose to. If Fat Willie can beat Dempsey once, I think many of Marciano's starting out fights might get a win over a young Dempsey. Charles did face most of the guys Rocky did, and Walcott DID beat Charles, so that thowns that arguement out the window.

Louis would always struggle with Walcott or Charles imo.
Liston did lose to guys that lose to Marciano's victims.
Not sure if Holmes can do it, Spinks did upset him, (The first time, I did score fight II for Holmes) I give Walcott or Charles a good shot. Foreman, I not so sure, Ali didnt really had the defenses movements of Walcott or Moore, and Ali may Foreman miss while laying on the ropes. Foreman has the power to take em out, but he has to do it early before his power drains. Ali did lose to lesser fighters in Charles or Walcott in Norton imo. I think they can spoil Ali's style. Tyson could do it if focus, but I cant see that.

Roland Lastarza wouldn't last 3 rounds in Tyson's world on Tyson's worst day.

    Please. I couldn't read beyond that ****.
