What exactly causes a fighter's punch resistance to deteriorate, whether with age or after a brutal war? Take for example Pacquiao. He had a strong chin. After he got knocked out by Marquez, he got rocked by Bradley in their rematch.

That shot he took from marquez that knocked him out turned his cast iron chin into a very shaky chin..... i would not be surprised if bradley knocks him out

before that shot dudes chin took 100000000 flush shots to the head by bigger guys sometimes out weighing him by 20 pounds and never went down

I still remember the shots he took from cotto flush 165 cotto at fight night and he was smiling like it was paulie punching him

While Khan never had a great chin, he could still take a decent punch - that is until he ran into Garcia.
Since that beating, any decent punch landed seems to fluster Khan.

Before and after Roach most decent punches on Khan seemed to fluster him.

Does getting rocked mean you have a concussion?

yup, shattered his eardrum and pacroid just walked through cotto
you poor people then complained when marquez roided up for 4.
if cotto had roided up for the pac fight, they would still be looking for pieces of pac's skull...

    It's a good possibility.

Fluid Jr. is a dope cheat, but he dopes more for stamina.

People make too much of an issue from that shot. That was the best possible punch Bradley could have landed on Pac. Full leverage and maximum impact. Bradley's not a power puncher, but he is still a professional boxer who's built like a tank and incredibly strong.

Punch resistance does lessen with each concussion for most people.

Roy Jones had a pretty good chin earlier in his career and now is hurt by almost every head shot.

Some fighters who had true iron chins even lost their punch resistance over time.
    Ricardo Mayorga
    Sam Peter
    Antonio Margarito
    Derek Chisora

Muhammad Ali is one fighter who always kept his iron chin and he would have been better off with a few more losses than taking the punishment he absorbed in the ring.

I am amazed that some fighters like Sugar Ray Leonard and Oscar Delahoya that don't slur or seem to have lasting physical problems from the punches they absorbed. (Leonard did have retina vision issues from boxing)

If you take a look at the inside of the human skull, it isn't smooth. There are some sharp edges in the bone and the brain can only slam into those edges so many times before damage occurs. Also, the brain like the human body is mostly composed of water and the dehydration many fighters are doing before fights these days can leave the brain with less cushioning inside the skull as well.

For the safety of the sport, they should mandate same day weigh-ins with massive purse penalties for not making weight.

I love boxing but I hate seeing fighters who are left with permanent injuries from the sport.

It's a function of brain damage. The more brain cell loss, the easier it is to cause loss of conciousness

What about a weight drained fighter lacking fluid around the brain?

Your brain gets loosened inside yore cranium. The more hits you take the more damage is accrued, until you can get ktfo just by a shove like Jones Jr. It happens often in football a sport riddled with head injuries, hell there's even a movie about it.
