Could be some dude called Salita. http://www.boxingtalk.com/pag/article13356.html Only read about this guy In Boxing News In their 60 second Interviews.
ive got to admire how he is already setting up a defence after less than a month winning the title. even though this guy is not world class (salita i mean) he has fought some sturdy ops grover wiley/ruban galvan/ arent amazing but a alright choice of fighter to fight against.not protected but definatly padded he has had around 15 real fights which no where neer enough to fight for a world championship
Nobody expected Rees to win the title and i think most beleive hel lose the bely pretty sharpish. Every win from here on in is a bonus imo. i think winning the WBA title will spur him on and he'll make a few defences. id like to see a unification happen for him...Witter maybe. :deal
Well he's got one voluntary before he faces Kotelnik , which will be the real test of his abilities . I'd fancy Kotelnik to beat him , but if Rees is able to pull that off then god know what he could do because beating M'Baye alone looked the impossible task before he faced him but to make a voluntary and then defeat Kotelnik aswell would be just plain ridiculous .
Who ever he fights, I hope he gets a decent pay day. He caused a fairly big upset, but gets only begrudging credit, because in this era, people like to focus on the negative (M'Baye fought an awful fight) rather than the positive (Rees used his head to make the most of his chance). Something I think we sometimes are all guilty of in boxing.
I'll let him off this bout given that he has Kotelnik after. Kotelnik should drag him into a tough fight. In some peoples eyes Kotelnik is undefeated with wins over M'Baye and Witter. I think Kotelnik is a world class operator and will test Rees. If Rees overcomes him, I don't care if Witter, Hatton, Malignaggi dominate him - Rees will be a proven world class operator.
Salita is good but has been very overly protected. If the fight is in Britain then expect another shock of Ree's successfully defending his title. Salita has postioned against very soft opposition and not faced anyone dangerous in america so he is even a bit of an unknown quantity over there. Should be a good fight and a logical step for both.
I've changed my mind a little bit. I think its a good match up. Salita is rated number 3 with the WBA. Rees is then lined up to face the number 1. The number 2 is a guy who probably isn't know, has a pumped up record and can punch, thus is more risk than his worth. Rees beating Salita will get him a little recognised in America. Facing the top contenders for your belt is the way to do it. Your first defence against your number 3 is good.
I can not see Ree's even getting the plaudits he deserves over here never mind in America. He deserves it but you know. The fight could be a great match up and maybe very entertaining as long as Ree's does not blow it like some of our other guys recently.
Rees v Mbaye was an odd fight. It was like Mbaye never really got going - not to take any credit away from Rees who thoroughly deserved to win. As for Salita, this could be the break he has been waiting for after a frustrating spell - he was due to fight this month but that was postponed as he injured his hand in training. His boxing career has been static - some would say this has been of his own making as he has been criticised for turning down opponents that may have got him more recognition. Instead of fighting Gatti he let Gomez jump the queue - who went on to punish him. That fight could have been a turning point in Salitas career had he pushed for it. Maybe he now sees the Rees fight as his best chance at a world title shot?
I think M'Baye can't handle pressure at all. He's shown it in the past, and he's always been a bit lazy. Rees fought the perfect fight: making M'Baye either face pressure (which he hates) or lead (which he hates). Enzo Calzaghe seems to be great at turning guys with small reaches into effective boxers both in the inside and outside. You'd never guess that Calzaghe isn't a gangly fighter.
