Rees V Mallignaggi?

I really do like Diaz, but he's not the cleverest of applying pressure, I don't think.

Still, he is at least a class above Rees I feel and he did have JMM going for a while, thought he was going to win that fight for a bit.

However, having said that, I think Pauli's stock at the moment may be a bit above what it warrants, a Khan loss may well bring his stock down, still he is a few levels above Rees.

As said, Rees would have to somehow try and outpoint him...

 

He's going to have to be disciplined as he seemed to have problems making 140 a fair while ago.

 

People were mad about Juan Diaz prior to Nate Campbell. He looked a beast up until he reached that next level. He dealt with Julio Diaz and Freitas as good as anybody did. He can set a tremendous pace when he gets into his stride, he just churns the punches out and barks, albeit with very average one punch power.

His plodding footwork has been shown up somewhat. That's his main problem. He sort of just stalks and if all else fails bumrushes in. That got him KO'd by Marquez and Malignaggi moved a little too well for him too. Campbell was a little too slick defensively for him and the cut hindered Diaz, that was the only difference in the pocket.

Still a pretty good fighter. If you can't maintain distance he's tough for anyone with the pace he sets. He sneaked out a win over Katsidas after all to add to the other wins I mentioned. He just ain't turned out to be the all conquering legend many thought he might. Didn't have quite the power or overall finesse in his game.

 

That wasn't a bad fight to watch actually, though he got a fair bit of stick on here for it.

He's a good little fighter, but as you say, for a time people expected very great things of him - it's perhaps unfair in some ways to hang him for that.

This fight is good while it lasts , Malignaggi , 116 - 112 , but looking more comfortable in the later rounds for Paulie .
