TKO loser KOs referee! Sunday, August 5 2007 By Joe Koizumi A very rare happening was witnessed beneath a dual title bout on Saturday in Tokyo, Japan. At 2:40 of the third round, the referee Ukrid Sarasas, a Japan-based Thailander, stepped in to separate boxers, when a vicious left hook of Yasuhiro Kondo caught the face with beautiful precision and Sarasas fell down from face first. He barely stood up wobblingly, and a judge Tsuchiya immediately jumped into the ring to assist the groggy referee. Sarasas was so unable to walk properly, much less continue refereeing, that Vinny Martin, a Japan-based Ghanan ref and ex-national champ, replaced him then and there. Sarasas, still dazed, was promptly carried to hospital and proved all right despite absorbing a coup-de-grace. However, the hard-punching Yasuhiro Kondo (10-5-2, 5 KOs), 140, was eventually stopped by unbeaten prospect Yoshihiro Kamegai (6-0, 6 KOs), 139.75, hitting the canvas twice at 2:59 of the fourth round in a scheduled ten. Kondo, in a single fight, scored a KO over the ref Sarasas and officially suffered a TKO by Kemegai, a very promising hard-hitter with good skills. Lol
