Wow. I just was walking my dog just now and that fight came to mind. I was suddenly reminded how literally terrified I was for Pacman's future health going into the ring against such a HUGE monster like monsterito. Literally filled with anxiety and would have flown down in a parachute like Bowe v Holyfield if I could, just to stop the fight from happening. I felt like I was about to watch something not too dissimilar from those liveleak videos that show muslims cutting the heads off of people. My stomach was turning during the ringwalks... Then OMG. Pacman absolutely annihilates him! Smashes the **** out of Tony and pummels him half-blind. Absolutely insane achievement and massively underrated. It would be like Mayweather beating the literal **** out of Huck (50+ lbs north of their debut weight). Incredible story. Would make a great movie someday.
A historic win. Yes Margo was on the decline but I think that is fair to somewhat wash it out considering he is a head taller and 17 lbs heavier than Pacquiao on fight night. It was for a title so it's like it was a complete farce.
This was a mind-boggling win, truly. Manny was not meant to beat Hatton, let alone 170lb fight night Margarito. Crazy stuff.
Plus he was coming off of a one-year suspension and a warm-up fight in Mexico with some journeyman. Quite frankly, I was surprised that he gave Pac as much trouble as he did.
Pac's win over Margo is pretty good regardless. The size difference was huge. Margarito was a good enough fighter that if you couple that with the size disparity, considering Margarito's chin and stamina as well, it's a damn good feat.
He fought Margo at his lowest point... the only impressive thing about it was the fact that he dominated the bigger but much less skilled man. I have no issues with this fight, my only gripe is the belt they fought for. Otherwise, good win for Pac.
There were easily at least 25 fights that would have been more meaningful W's than this one for Pacquiao at the time, which was at Pac's height of popularity and ranking. Margarito's "successes" in this fight are overplayed. Pacquiao made him his son. The title and Margarito being allowed to fight professionally in the first place are the biggest question marks regarding this fight.
Pac fans reminiscing on the "good ol' days" when Pacquiao was known as PEDquiao and obliterated guys because they were scrubs, catch weighted, career derailed etc. and every combination possible thereof.
Its still a feat it would be like rigo putting a beating on a limited rios though rios sucks his size advantage makes the difference.
coming from someone who doesnt beliece Margo ever cheated, Pac fought a way mast it boxer who had been out for about a year other than a fight to a nobody. only thing about the fight was the weight advantage but thats no different than when pac and floyd fouggt clottey ortiz, maidana, cotto or when Cotto KO'd geale
I hated that the fight was at a catchweight, and that Margs was coming off an unimpressive and meaningless win, but the fight was all action, and astonishing to see the smaller man physically dominate the significantly larger man.
Why are PacTrds so crazy about this fight? In all honesty the Mosley obliteration of Margarito was much more impressive than the empty frame of a fighter that Manny faced. ....oh ...my bad.....wait I get it....cause Floyd didn't fight Margarito.....right
