Emanuel Augustus looked as focused as he gets en route to losing a close decision I felt he deserved. I was not acutely watching the fight based on drinking and having people over, but generally he seemed to be winning the mostpart of the rounds. It's unfortunate that he's rarely caught a break in close fights. Judah has reached a level of maturity that would have made him deadly if he still had the physical capabilities of his youth. As it stands he remains a dangerous test for anyone, but is not so much an elite fighter. No big surprises in this one. I was disappointed that Roy couldn't capitalize on scoring a first round knockdown over Calzaghe. This fight shows me beyond the shadow of a doubt that Roy Jones is finished as being one of the best. He was focused last night and in shape and he wanted to win, but he couldn't do the things he used to do. He's just too old. Seeing Calzaghe stick his chin out and Roy not being fast enough anymore to hit him was a sad sight. I've been advocating a Hopkins vs. Jones II match for years, but now I have little interest to see it. It is plain to me that Hopkins at this point would batter Jones and it would mean very little. The better fight would be a Calzaghe vs. Hopkins rematch, with both coming off of solid showings. Calzaghe looked very good last night in his fight Jones, but this by no means should indicate how a prime for prime match-up would go. I believe Jones would have beaten Calzaghe in their respective primes, despite losing nearly every round aside from the first with the knockdown. I am convinced that Calzaghe has the mind and physical ability of an all-time great fighter, so it would be nice to see him notch some more nice wins before he retires. Dawson would be a solid win, aside from beating Hopkins more convincingly in a rematch, if he can.
Also, did anyone else think Jones should have tried switching Southpaw when he started to lose his eyesight of his left eye? The gash was bad and he could have protected it while giving himself different angles since Orthodox wasn't working for him.
Once Calzaghe made the appropriate adjustments, I don't think there was anything Jones could have done to disrupt Calzaghe's timing and rhythm. Despite Jones being long in the tooth, I don't think anyone can deny how special joe Calzaghe truly is.
No one mentioned Joe being special or not. That's beside the point. My question is whether that may have improved Jones' chances since he was already losing every round.
Augustus was robebd imo ..Judah is a still a train wreck the fact that he completly blew off instructions from his dad further proved it ..
augustus is the man seriously i love watching him he deserved the win imo the best 30 loss fighter i ever saw its a shame
I believe Judah would have benefited early on by getting rid of his father in his corner. I think his father was going to give him hell in the corner and Judah didn't want to hear it. I could be wrong.
