Marquez actually called out Floyd. I think it may have been after the Diaz fight. Everyone calls out Floyd though.

I had someone just tell me that Floyd stalked Marquez. But I could have sworn I remembered Marquez calling out Floyd, and Floyd accepting after the Pac-Hatton fight.

I thought I was going crazy or something.

Marquez mentioned that he wants to fight the best fighter in the world, Mayweather. He called him p4p best back then and still does to this day.

Hahaha. Honestly, I dont even think Mayweather was even thinking of JMM as an opponent but when Marquez opened his mouth, Bam, Tune-up fight against a champ that fought with Pac tooth & nail. Perfect. It was the weight **** that messed it up. But at any wieght it wouldve got worse for Juan

Marquez called out mayweather. He thought that Mayweather was at Pacman's skill level, but was 200% wrong.
I really like Marquez, but mayweather is in another higher orbit than Marquez, Pac, Canelo, etc.

    Marquez summoned. Mayweather graciously obliged.

It was obvious from the moment Juan opened his mouth (with Nacho standing behind giving a reproachful shake of the head) that it was a cash grab.

Juan felt the sport owed him and that he was in a position to get paid. I think he may have also convinced some part of himself that he could beat Mayweather, but you could tell that Beristain never thought so by his tone, words, and body language all during the build-up. He seemed a little disappointed, either in the quixotic nature of Juan deluding himself into thinking he could do it or more cynically in the dishonorable nature of abusing your fans by heading into a sure loss for profit.

Marquez called him out after the first Diaz fight's post-fight interview.

Profit comes first, these guys won't be doing this if they're not getting paid to support their family, I'm sure you'll agree with this. That said, at least Marquez showed serious courage in taking this fight. He was looking to make a statement to get a third fight with Pacquiao and wanted to take a major risk against Mayweather to hopefully make it happen. It still takes serious balls to move up two weight divisions to fight someone in Mayweather's ability.

I don't understand why all of Floyd's haters repeatedly keep calling him a ducker, a chicken, or cherry picker. As I recall, at least half of his fights were with opponents who called him out, or opponents his distractors wanted to see him face, convinced that they would defeat him.
It was this way with Marquez, Ortiz, Guerrero, and it is the same with Canelo.

I partially agree with this. Marquez definitely took this fight to get Pacquiao. However, it was pretty much a no risk situation. If he wins, it would be the biggest win of his career, his earning potential skyrockets and there would be a ton of pressure on Pacquiao to fight him. If he loses a competive fight to Mayweather, his stock still goes up and Pacquiao is still pressured to fight him.

He gets dismantled like he eventually did, and his stock stays the same. Everyone just assumes he's not big enough to compete at 147. Furthermore, Pacquiao would also make this assumption and would also assume that Marquez was past it. This may have very well been what happened. Pacquiao was suddenly emboldened to fight Marquez after he lost to Mayweather even though he had been blowing Marques off for the past few years.

Didn't Pacquiao call out Marquez to move up two weight divisions to fight him too?, as a huge fan of both Pacquiao and Mayweather you have no case here whatsoever even if you try to joke around.
