LAS VEGAS—Nevada could start using instant replay in boxing and mixed martial arts within a month to help referees review crucial or controversial moments of fights. The Nevada Athletic Commission approved limited use of the technology to help referees rule whether hits like low blows or head-butts are accidental—if they cause a fight to end because of injury.
Commission Executive Director Keith Kizer said Thursday that instant replay would be used at the sole discretion of referees.
Kizer says the new rule could be in effect within 30 days. It awaits approval from the state's Legislative Council Bureau.
That means it's possible that instant replay could be used during the Floyd Mayweather Jr.-Juan Manuel Marquez fight Sept. 19 in Las Vegas.

    good...
i never understood why the commentators can see and show the replay right away, but the refs cannot use it to determine wether or not a cut was a punch or a headbutt, or if a foul was un/intentional....

I agree about the punch/headbutt thing but the intentional vs unintenional is not as easy to tell even in a replay. We've all seen Cotto vs judah a million times and you would get pretty much an evenly split poll if you asked whehter or not those blows were intentional.

I'm just wondering when they will have time to review a punch. I dont think 1 minute is enough time to get down there and take a look. It has to be after the fight, before the score cards are turned in.
