You ****ing idiot - that's one of the Australian commentators (and also ex-LHW boxer) Paul Briggs saying to one of the other Australian commentators (and also ex-boxer) Barry Michaels "I told you didn't I Baz?" because he had backed Green to win by KO :patsch

This is exactly how I see it. Sure the ref *could* have let it go on and that would have been an ok decision. But it was also an ok decision to stop it. Roy was out on his feet and Green was starting to crack through that guard. Green punches hard and could have done a lot of damage.

Meh, you cant please everyone. You can bet that if Roy had of been knocked out cold after another 20 seconds people would be pissed of at that it didnt get stopped. That's life.

Honestly, when I watched it live I also thought that it might be a bit premature. But Roys total complicity told me he was happy to be out of there. You also gotta remember that the ref is 3 feet away while we are watching it on TV. I say give the guy some benefit of doubt!

I can't believe people who have watched the video multiple times are still arguing. I thought it was a bit quick live, but the replays show much more, punches did land after the knockdown and Danny hits hard, anyone who thinks he doesn't is talking crap.
In some interviews today danny also said Roy was groaning funny and that also could have contributed to the ref deciding he was seriously hurt. If it kept going Danny would have dropped him hard before the end of the round.

What planet are your on.....you must be a ****ing delirious **** head to believe the re were no clean shots....there were atleast 3 clean upprcuts and the last one nearly snapped RJJ's head off.

Not satisfied till someone ends up recovering in hospital?

Green has a proven KO/TKO record and if you go back and view some of his fights where guys tried to hang in there they suffered brutal punishment by one of the sports hardest hitters.

    Watch the replay you tool.

If anyone here doubts how hard and unrelenting Green can bash an opponent into submission.....find the Eric Lucas fight from 2003.

Since and including that fight Green has won 9 of 12 by way of stoppage, these guys were punished.

The refs know Green's punishing finishes and any true boxing fan should be thankful the ref stopped a forgone flogging of a former great before it became brutal.

I agree. Another point is that Jones did the right thing by covering up and not punching with a "puncher" while being seriously stunned. That was smart. It seems to me that the ref misjudged the situation.

I didn't retreat anywhere. Please show me where I retreated. I proved what I had to say, it's up to you to decide what you do with the truth.

If you were describing the action to someone who didn't see the fight, clearly there is a world of difference between being 'legless' and being 'wobbly'. Legless = stop fight straight away, wobbly = grey area.

This is not just semantics when discussing whether a stoppage came early or not.

And...jeez, one more time for ya, I don't disagree with the stoppage, however at the same time, I don't think Roy was done, it was the first round, if the ref had given the fight another 30 seconds, there's every reason to think Roy could have recovered his balance. I would have enjoyed seeing Jones trying to come back from the brink.

But credit to Green, he pressured for the stoppage, sold it well to the ref who in turn bought it, and he won.

You need to understand that this is boxing. No significant punches were landed after the knock down. Jones was conscious enough to cover up and hold. No need to stop the fight. Of course this is always gonna be subjectif.

  11. The term "consciousness enough" is disturbing and just goes to show that you DON'T get it. haha

    Clutching at straws.

Roy's legs were gone and he was unable to throw anything back. He barely made up from the first KD as it was.

That's too dangerous a situation to leave a fighter in for long.

I understand, people are pissed their favourite lost or a chance for Hopkins to beat him. But Roy was in deep water.

I cannot believe there is a discussion on this, the first knockdown occurred after juts 63 seconds, Jones then gets an 8 count, his legs are gone, his eyes have a blank stare. He is stunned badly, the fight continues for another minute with Green pummeling Jones who does not return any punches being thrown by Green. He is in serious trouble, it is one of the better stoppages i have seen in boxing. You cannot just cover up and take punches and not return fire, the referee had no choice but to stop the fight. Jones was gone!

:patschThere was still 58 seconds to go in the round when the ref stopped it with Jones just covering up and not returning punches. He was gone, what did you want to see happen here.. Jones die in the ring? This is the most ridiculous thread i have seen in a long time.

you got to understand that stoppages are always subjectif. If you want to be a pu$$y amd stop fights immediately, then so be it.:rofl
