I can't say that I have been a big FMJ fan in the past. I've always rooted against him, to be perfectly honest, until this fight with Marquez. I realized that he is just that good. He beat up a guy who went toe to toe with the #1 regarded fighter. He's beat the top WW guys and then went up in weight to face Oscar De La Hoya. He's never been beat, never knocked down, and everyone wants to fight him. It's because he's the best. I've also given some thought to a couple of the criticisms that Floyd often faces. 1. He always chooses an opponent that he has a clear advantage over, that he cherry picks. well folks, he has a clear advantage over everyone except Paul Williams, maybe, who isn't a WW anyway, so let's get over it. Can anyone tell me who has the clear advantage over Floyd? because he's faster than any WW, especially Cotto (check out Clottey fight). He's also looking pretty strong and I'd say he doesn't give up much to SSM or Clottey or Berto in strength. His defense is unparalleled and the guy has several levels of offense. Criticism #2: He hasn't beaten the best in the Welter weight division. This is simply not true. He beat WW champ to become undisputed champ and beat the man who beat the man. That makes him the man. Everyone else has lost except him. He IS the best. Anyone who picks another WW to beat him is going to be disappointed, and if Pac gets in with him (which he won't) he will be hurt badly because he is easy to hit and his heart is big. He really has nothing to prove to me that he hasn't already. Granted, he has not faced Cotto, SSM or Berto, but he will. My opinion is that he will beat them all soundly as he has everyone else and people will still make excuses as to why he won, that he has not beaten the best. I myself am now a believer, FMJ is without a doubt, the best and will clean out the division in the next few years and then retire undefeated, again.
good post for a newbie but berto must be hyped up in the states for people to keep bringing him up when he hasn't earned it and certainly doesnt have the profile. also, technically floyd's been 'down' twice that i can think of. i remember he took a knee once because he broke his hand to get a timeout, and he's technically been 'down' against judah - if you want to split hairs. but a good post.
Course your not a Floyd fanatsch If you were impressed with Floyd beating a smaller guy who was rated N0.2 P4P, what would you have done if Cotto or Shane fought JMM? They would both have knocked him out mid fight and that would have been a total mis-match from the get go and everyone would say so. Why does Floyd get away with it? No other Welter would get praise for winning a fight againsed a ****ing lightweight. Floyd gets ZERO credit from me. You can't defend Mayweather, he IS a cherry picker and he is not an exiting fighter, he can't even stop a lightweight! Fraud!
You ****ing moron. Cotto and Mosley weigh 160 on fight night. The difference in size between Mayweather and Marquez is nowhere near elaborate. Floyd fought 90% of his career at 130 dumby.
Why is it a good post? Baldomir was and never will be the best of ANY division he was a one hit wonder, this post claims he fought the best at Welter, are you mad? Thread starter is 100% a Floyd fan. Whats the point?
Bottom line is this - Floyd won't be respected until he loses a fight. This is much the same thing that occured with Roy Jones Jr. Up until his fight with Tarver everyone said he never fought anyone, was ducking DM, etc ... since he's lost a few bouts, people have realized how much of a gem was. When Floyd loses, which undoubtably he will if he faces PW, SSM, Cotto, or Pac (he won't beat them ALL), then people will eventually give him props, after they label him "exposed" as usual.
How in the hell do you know how big the size difference was? Money refused to weigh in the night of the fight, this ofcourse after failing to make the agreed upon weight. What a *****. Have some substance to your argument fanboy before you call someone a "dumby."
i am confident mayweather will beat pac and probably cotto but with mosley i think its 50/50 they are both great technicians but they both struggle against someone who throws alot of jabs i think mosley has the better workrate but mayweather obviously is more elusive i think it will be a brilliant fight and honestly better than mayweather vs pac after the marquez fight i did realise just how much boxing missed floyd the anticipation and that for the past few years ufc has been taking over but theres something about mayweather wether you love to watch him fight and learn techniques and styles or just there wanting him to lose he is brilliant for boxing
He is also a welterweight NOW!!! Him not making 144 should prove that. SO FLOYD DEFEATED A BLOWN UP LIGHTWEIGHT BIG DEAL. Watch mayweather pick on amir khan or berto next. He wont fight mosley, pac, cotto especially WILLIAMS
Mayweather came on to the 147 scene when it was incredably weak...damn Judah and Baldomir where the best welters at the time!!! Mosley, Cotto, Margo, Williams, Clottey, and Berto show up and suddenly he has nothing left to prove so he retires. Then he pops his mug back in and fights the light weight champ.....not impressive at all.
Shane Mosley has faster hands. Floyds hands aren't the fastest, in my opinion Cotto and Floyd have similar handspeed and Pacman and Mosley have faster hands. Floyd has accuracy and timing, not speed. He throws one or two accurate punches at a time, not 10 punch combos like Roy Jones. Mosley has speed and power over him and physically Mosley is a better athelete. Paul Williams has height and reach over him and physically is a better athlete. It's about time Floyd takes on someone who has as much physical talent as he does so he can show us his skill. The last time he did this was against Zab Judah. The Zab Judah fight is the only fight where he impressed me with superior skill.
Thats not true at all. Roy Jones had just beat Ruiz and everyone gave him credit for being bold enough to take on the heavyweight champion and win. He also had beaten Bernard Hopkins, James Toney, and many others who were supposed to be more skilled than him or physically bigger than him, and he won them all. By 2003 everyone recognized that Roy Jones Jr was the best. I don't think everyone recognizes Floyd as the best because he hasn't dominated his division like Roy Jones Jr, he hasn't beaten the best fighters in his division. It has nothing to do with winning and losing, it has to do with taking on and beating the best fighters. Right now in my opinion Shane Mosley is a greater fighter because of the quality of opposition he has fought and beat. Floyd if he beats Shane Mosley will move up on the ATG list, and if he loses then he'd still earn respect for taking the fight. Roy Jones Jr gets respect because hes fighting everyone, even Joe Calzaghe and Felix Trinidad. Of course he doesn't win every fight but hes improving his legacy with every fight. If he beats Danny Green he improves his legacy again by winning titles in every weightclass. What Roy Jones Jr is trying to do is be the greatest boxer of all time, and to be the greatest you have to take the toughest fights win or lose. Thats what makes a great fighter, not retiring with a perfect record. Calzaghe has a perfect record but I doubt anyone thinks hes greater than Roy Jones, Bernard Hopkins or James Toney. Sugar Ray Robinson had over 10 losses and hes in most peoples top 5 of all time if not the #1. Floyd is no where near that level of greatness and to be at that level he has to beat Mosley or Pacman, or Cotto. Then maybe he will be in the top 20.
Excuse after excuse after excuse .. When floyd was fighting at 130 he never given any credit , so he moved up to 135 again winning a close decision to castillio and beating him in the rematch again no credit at 135. He then moves up to 140 to challenge Hatton and Cotto only to be told that, neither of the 140 CHAMPS are ready for a fighter like floyd.:huh so Floyd takes out his frustration on the late Gatti. he then moves up challenges the then 147 undisputed champ at 147 Zab. Zab Brain farts dose not focus on his fight with Baldi and drops a decision .. Floyd beat both Zab and Baldi at 147 and still there are excuses .. He then moves up to 154 give ODH a handicap match in his favor wins, and again no credit. He is then challenged by Hatton which everyone thinks is going to maul floyd into submission, only to be KOed cartoon style and embarrassed in front of his countrymen.. When will the bull **** excuses stop ?!? NOT one credit win .. Nothing but BS from the haters .
Hey smartass. Don't you realize that PBF was away from the ring for 2 years. He could have picked a bum like Jennings like man in your avatar did for his comeback fight.:deal This is PBF's first fight back after a long layoff and he took on the #2 P4P fighter in the sport hardly a cakewalk. He will fight Cotto, Pac or Shane next give it time.
****ing hilarious same handspeed?? PBF's hands are much faster than Cotto's and if they fight it will be apparent from the opening bell.:deal
