The problem with the mandatory appears to be that unless Haye signs a unification fight, he has to fight Chagaev before July. He can't possibly sign a unification fight if the Champion has a defence against another opponent lined up - so if Wlad fights Chisora, Haye has to fight Chagaev before July. Therefore Haye has to set about arranging his mandatory.

The earliest Haye can get a Sky PPV date for a Chagaev fight is the second week of May - therefore a July date with Wlad is virtually impossible should Wlad fight Chisora. Wlad knows this and is proceeding to fight Chisora regardless.

The logical thing, considering all the other details are agreed, is to sign to fight in July and forget about Chisora. Why, when he fought so hard to 50% of Haye's TV money, would Wlad risk his career high payday with a potential Haye loss in a fight with Chagaev for the sake of fighting 14 fight, British level Derek Chisora. That is so wrong on the risk-reward ratio it's unreal.

You think he's risking all that money to teach Haye a lesson? For such a supposed clever guy, that is childish and ridiculous

Is this the way it is, or is there something I am missing or overlooking? Not a trolling thread - genuinely intrigues

It's a strange move on Wlad's part. And I know the people defending this action will say that he wants to fight Haye, but Chisora is just a tune-up, etc.

But Wlad spent months and months calling out Haye, appearing wherever he could trying to get the bout. He got the bout, he got Haye to agree to everything...then risks the Haye bout against someone who doesn't deserve a shot. Literally doesn't make sense.

    I think you're right.

It's funny because money has been a massive issue in negotiating this fight, yet the bottom line is, if they went ahead with the Chisora fight, the eventual Haye bout 8 weeks later, would make nowhere near the money it could because suitably hyping the fight would be impossible. Both camps have argued over tiny percentages so why would they go ahead with something which would clearly lose them millions? It just doesn't make sense.

I think Wlad's game is clear. He wants to run down the RTL contract, which is 3m per fight and use the Haye fight as an incentive to get much more in his new contract. It's obvious.

Like I posted in another thread, the Klitschko's message to Haye: We've decided that Vitali will fight you. You blew your chance to fight Wlad last year when you went for Harrison instead.

I've been saying this all day but people just ignoring it saying "***** HAYE SCARED OF CHAGAEV!"

I think our only hope is that some how they get Chagaev to hold on while Wlad still fights Chisora but I'm not sure it's possible.

So why did they even discuss a fight and place all these demands?

Speck, hope you don't mind, but I'm posting this discussion here as it's more relevant in here than it is in the other thread and others can join the discussion

In my opinion, risking your career high payday and career defining fight (that's what it is for both fighter, no two ways about it) to teach someone a lesson is absolutely pathetic and cannot be condoned.

Although Haye's moves and behaviour has been questionable and some would say distasteful, it is that very behaviour that earned him a title to create a unification fight, it got him a PPV deal which Boente has admitted is the bulk of the money generated by the fight and is paying Wlad's highest payday and it's got him a name that will get Wlad on HBO.

Without that behaviour this fight would not be the size it is today. He can't have it both ways.

Was it RTL and SKY who had to come to an agreement on a date they could both show the fight? I wonder if Wlad get's this Chisora fight out of the way and RTL out of the way if more dates then become available?

I think there really could be something in this - Vitali is looking for his pension fight and may well have cooked up this plan as he wants Haye more..and little bro is thinking yeah go for it! We could see in a week or so from now that all of a sudden its Haye V Vitali. The dates are very much more possible. This happening woudn't suprise me in the least now - I think it makes a lot of sense. This is a Klitschko plan. Watch n see. Haye is backed into a corner now..this will become the most lucrative option.

Perhaps for the same reason they were discussing it for the past two years - to maneuver themselves into more advantageous position.

Vitali is retiring this year, he might wanna leave on top by beating Haye and having as many belts as Wlad does.

The Vlad v Chisora fight will be free to air in the UK (unless they get warren to assemble a decent fight night around his fighters), but Haye v Chag will be pay per view regardless of the undercard. They all have to understand that Haye is the draw in the UK and that is where the money will be made at the moment. Maybe a fight later in the year could introduce PPV to our German friends - then we will see how good a fan base the K2s have.
