Regardless of weight, is Pacquiao a stylistic nightmare for De La Hoya?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by Classic Boxer, Feb 13, 2014.

  1. Honestly, I feel that if Pacquiao fought an 07' De La Hoya (one that Mayweather fought), he would have beaten him in a somewhat COMPETITIVE fight.

If you actually watch the fight in the beginning, De la Hoya STILL had a lot of his speed still and was trying to pump his jab at Pacquiao but Pacquiao kept turning him and pivoting which is why De La Hoya had trouble with his movements.

De La Hoya also doesn't know HOW to cut off the ring. For whatever apparent reason, an elite level fighter like him should be able to do so. With pacquiao, he would have to corner him or else Pacquiao will consistently turn and pivot him just like what happened in the 08' fight. Also, De La Hoya does not have a strong right hand. His strong arm is the left and with a southpaw like Pacquiao, it's highly unlikely that De La Hoya will land his signature left hook. Just like the when Garcia fought Zab, Garcia had to mainly use his right hands to hurt Zab.

Also, a lot of people underrate Pacquiao's defense. Pacquiao has good slip and slide head movement and has very good feints, which De La Hoya has been a sucker for most of his career. De La Hoya is a fighter that DOESNT like to get hit, even though he has a good chin.

Overall, I think a fight with a non weight drained De La hoya and pacquiao would be slightly competive but I would have to favor the dynamic southpaw in this one. It would be just like the 08' fight except it would go the distance with De La Hoya having his moments.

Stylistically yeah, Pacquiao is a nightmare for most. A prime Oscar may have been able to man handle him, rough him up and get to him that way though.

Delahoya had problems with fast fighters. In this case PAC was fast both fists and footwork enabling hit combos and get out of range quickly. You have to timed PAC coming in ala Jim. Brawling or engaging PAC in furious exchanges is not a good strategy.

Yes Pacquiao poses an issue for any fighter, including any Oscar.

However I would probably still pick any version of Oscar through 1998, that is at the weights of 130, 135, 140, or 147, over a respective Pacquiao.

he can possibly beat him, but he needs to fight him multiple times just to be able to master his style. like JMM did

Stylistically, Pacquiao would be a nightmare for anyone. I don't see any style that could easily beat someone like Pacquiao.

  7. How about an 07' De La Hoya at 154?

  8. Assuming you haven't watched marquez PAC 3. I had the fight 9-3 for Marquez in an easy decision win.

I had Marquez winning by two points. Easy?, I don't think so.

He might have been mildly frustrating and bagged a few rounds, but that result owed itself entirely to Oscar's frail constitution, and that is the position held even by Freddie Roach.

No matter the weight, Pacquiao would've beat the crap out of DLH. That guy has lost alomst all his big fights..man i never made so much money in my life on that fight. I was like "when the last time he fought a southpaw" "when the last time he beat anybody good (Maygora does not count)" I had 8th round KO 40-1 :yep:yep:yep

That was an easy win for marquez, got robbed blind

reason why the Mayweather fight hasnt happened. that style is all wrong for Pac, hence why he would be lucky to win 3 rounds, espcially if u cant do that with Marquez

The reason why the Mayweather fight hasn't happened is because Mayweather has a long list of comical demands that ruined it from happening. Not to forget the "cheater!" attacks which he later apologized for. Mayweather had no problems fighting the likes of Ortiz and Guerrero when they were tailor made to make him look good, I don't see the issue with not fighting the "easy" Pacquiao for FAR more publicity and money.

Pacquiao vs. Marquez I, II and III were all clear for Marquez, increasingly so. (I close but clear factoring in all the knockdowns, II a little more comfortable and III, yes, almost easy work for Marquez)
