The indictment alleges that Johnson received more than $120,000 in grant money distributed through the Urban League from the Red Cross to aid children displaced by Hurricanes Rita and Katrina, said Assistant District Attorney Terese Buess. Buess said Johnson, doing business as "Pugilistic Drama, Inc." was supposed to put on a series of camps helping more than 40 children. Because, she said, the camps never took place, Johnson was indicted on a charge of theft of more than $100,000 — a second-degree felony. If convicted, Johnson could face a sentence ranging from probation to 20 years in prison. He could also be fined as much as $10,000. One of Houston's most notable boxers, Johnson was the 1992-93 middleweight champion and 1998-99 light heavyweight champ. Johnson's attorney could not be reached for comment immediately Tuesday.
