Alexander Dimitrenko is the EBU heavyweight champ. Helenius has the EBU-EU (European Union) title, which sounds similar but is different. Its basically another mickey mouse belt for the EBU to make money.
Sounds like Dimitrenko and Helenius need to get in the ring together, and maybe the winner fights Boystov then maybe a world title? But you see what I mean? You fight for the British title, maybe pickup a Lonsdale Belt getting ready for the EU title shot, put in a few defenses of the EU title and then fight another national champion for an Intercontinental belt, and eventually defend it and work to a World Title. That would be much more meaningful than Joe Boxer, comes out of obscurity with 14-0 vs tomato cans, and some promoter gets him a world title shot. Its basically the same idea as the armatures. Win a gym championship, a city championship, a district championship, state championship, nationals then finally, Olympics. The fighter gets better as he faces quality opposition, the fans get quality fights, the promoters make money and the sport benefits tremendously.
I presume one of the benefits of the EU title is that it eventually gets you a shot at the EBU title...:huh
yea i know. I'm just playing ******** games. if sanctioning bodies actually did rank according to regional titleholders, it would make sense. But they probably toss out interim regional belts to make more money nowadays. People are able to jump up the ranks if they have the right promoter put a bug in someone's ear or make a call or if they have name recoginition. For instance, Pacquiao won his title september of last year, you think the WBO is going to have him make a Mandatory defense? He's had a voluntary for his inhouse against Clottey and a trip up half another weight class to fight for another sanctioning body's title. I know they ranked a dead guy twice, but I don't even think they were remotely close to ranking Shane as number 2 to face Pacquiao. Hell, I remember that Diaz-Malignaggi 1 and 2 were for the NABO JrWW title even though they had the fights at 138 and 139 pounds. Neither of them got a shot at Bradley, I never even heard them being mentioned as being set up to face him.
its alright, I dont get it myself. Its like having a American champion then an American-USA champion...????:huh All I know the EU belt is Mickey mouse.
This. - I think it's the right route to come up personally. If somebody get's the British, Commonwealth and European titles then they more than merit a title shot of sorts. I think that's the proper way to do it,
I could easily forego the commonwealth title tbh, I think the British title > European title > World title route is just as valid.
Yeah true, so could I. Commonwealth is obviously seen more as a stepping stone to British nowadays. I think it's just looks better if a fighter has all 3, especially at the same time. But yeah it's irrelevant really if a fighter wins a Lonsdale belt and clears out the domestic scene and then wins the European before making a couple of defences against good Euro-level fighters.
Brian Magee was a Lonsdale holder, IBO champ(I know), and reigning Euro champ, ranked very high, and hes getting mad **** on these forums for being Butes next "bum" opponent
Don't really understand the thread. If you're asking if regional titles should stick around I would yes. The titles really don't mean anything in the big time boxing world, but in those cities its a big deal. You can headline a fight in a certain and make it seem like a big deal. Also gets fighters name out there. I think looking at if from a local boxing perspective its great for business.
the WBO now have a euro title as well LOL I thought their world title was that The fact is that most US based boxers in fact win the nabo nabf stuff before a shot you just dont hear about it
Sergio Martinez said that the IBO belt brought in lost of cash and when he gave it up for a Latino strap then the money faded. Boxrec has a list of Titles. http://boxrec.com/title_search.php
Just out of curiosity, I was looking at some of the title holders. There are some name fighters who have held some of them, but there are also a lot of guys I've never heard of. Also, it looks like the titles are either stripped, vacated or change hands multiple times in a year in some cases, or be held for a long time in others. Anyway... Here are some guys with multiple titles: HW - NABO, IBF Int - Tomasz Adamek Cru: NABO, NABF - Lateef Kayode MW: NABF, NABO - Fernando Guerrero or Daniel Jacobs, seem to be switching it back and forth. LMW - NABF, NABO, WBA Int. - Vanes Martirosyan Here are links to title fights: WBA NABA: http://boxrec.com/title_search.php?title=NABA&division=ALL&SUBMIT=Go WBO NABO: http://boxrec.com/title_search.php?title=NABO&division=ALL&SUBMIT=Go WBC NABF: http://boxrec.com/title_search.php?title=NABF&division=ALL&SUBMIT=Go IBF USBA: http://boxrec.com/title_search.php?title=USBA&division=ALL&SUBMIT=Go
