I guess one question would be, what happens to world champion fighters after they lose a title?

Would we expect them to drop down and win a regional or intercontinental title and then demand a title shot?

I'd say not if they are 2 or 3 fights away from the World title loss, but when you have someone who has been inactive suddenly skipping line and fighting for a title, that's BS.

Example: Mayorga loses to Mosley in 2008, comes back late this year and beats a journeyman, and now has a shot at a world title. Personally, I think that is bull****.

Why not give that shot to someone who has been working their ass off for it?

Paul McCloskey or even a rematch with Zab (NABO LWW title)?

That's the problem with the commissions. Don King has pull with everyone, some just more than others and he promotes Mayorga. He's buddies with Ol' Bob Arum, so if they offer a big enough cut of the purses to the WBA, they'll gladly sanction it. None of the commissions really go by their own rules anymore.Hell, Mayorga won a middleweight fight to get his title shot.

I'm not sure how that can be fixed.

Maybe if the fighters start declining all but one organizations belts? Then the sanctioning bodies would dissolve eventually.

    Or...

If a group got together, purchased and combined some of the bodies and got some marketing going.. The Ring could do that possibly...with Golden Boy and HBO behind them...

    Hmmmm :think

Always thought of it. Oscar should buy two or three of the titles and just cram them together or make a forced unification.

that leaves room for HBO to control and **** with the rankings though. just like how HBO has "their" fighters that they've been pushing.

WBC Damn near did dissolve when they got sued for fixing their rankings and screwing that one guy out of his shot but they got saved and spit out 4 different kinds of belts to stay afloat. Theoretically, the other organizations COULD be bucked by a lot of the more well known fighters and just have one being endorsed but that almost requires a lot of coordination and whatnot between the promoters.

    Exactly.

Figure it would take something known, like The Ring...which I think is owned by Golden Boy...and an outcry to boxers from well known boxers....like Oscar, BHop...all those GBP affiliated guys.

I don't like the idea of HBO having any say in rankings. But giving them some kind of rights to so a number of title fights a year, and in return they would market this sanctioning body? That could work.

Having rights to most of the title fights would be big business if there was only one sanctioning body that mattered.

never happen titles bs as they may be are still a great way for fighters to get noticed by the media and public and make more money.i think we going to eventually reach saturation point with the titles and there becomes too many and no body takes them seriously.the ring is a good alternative that may become more mainstream over time but it isn't perfect

    In that case, absolutely.Definitely.

Having HBO take care of the coverage for the fights would be necessary for the exposure. If HBO got behind them, it would be almost instantaneous legitimacy.

I've heard there's a group called the association of boxing promoters or something like that. GBP just joined so they could have a say sometime soon if they don't make every meeting a big game of Screw Your Neighbor. I saw a story on them on the scene. I think to undue the ****ed up organization structures, it would take a huge effort on the half of boxing writers, promoters, AND fighters to either pick a reputable group to get behind and let the others fall, or a buy out/merger of groups.
