Headlining a Top Rank on ESPN card (hopefully regular broadcast TV and not the stupid ESPN+ app) on July 14th. Interim WBC light welterweight title on the line, same as it was in Prograis vs. Indongo this March. José Carlos Ramírez continues to be recognized as the "regular" champion after defeating Amir Imam eight days later.

A native of northern Argentinian industrial town (centered around originally a steel mill, and then a tobacco plantation into modern day) Palpalá, the Pitbull is currently not ranked in the WBC top 15 (way down at #34 as of the May edition), but is the WBO #7. His entire four year campaign has been fought domestically, in Argentina, save for two outings abroad in 2017: beating Fernando Marin via UD in Mexico to defend his WBA Fedebol welterweight title in February, and knocking out Juan García Méndez in New Mexico to capture the vacant WBC Latino 140lb title in September. Velasco is 3-0 (2) lifetime against southpaws, but was dropped by one (thrice overall in his career).

In the Jorge Garcia match he's way too easy to hit clean, by a southpaw, has very little head movement, he'll probably walk onto something early, that being said, the Rougarou better watch out for that right hook. I also noticed Velasco got dropped by a southpaw in Guillermo de Jesus Paz, so Regis should probably stop him fairly early.

Twelve days out. This is actually the next even remotely bright spot on the boxing schedule that even halfway interests me, and having said that frankly I'd be shocked if Velasco wasn't KTFO.

    July kind of sucks, eh?

    July doesn't suck.

On the 21st we have Munguia vs Liam Smith.

    28th is Garcia vs Easter.

    August sucks.

    Prograis and early.

He'd still a little rough around the edges but Prograis is the future of the division.

i like prograis, he is a student and fan, as well as a talented fighter. saw a few interviews and he comes across as a smart, respectful and highly knowledgeable fan of all areas of boxing. from the talent side, to the business side, to how he fits inside all of it, this kid is very aware. he has found a goodt balance between confidence, respect and reality. i expect a 9th rd ko for rougarou.

I'm tired of titlists facing unknown no-hopers.

Eh, but the only real bright spot is the one in bold and large font. The rest are "meh" at best.

There are two consecutive Saturdays that are more or less bereft (this week a mismatch on the stupid ESPN+ app, with NOTHING else on North American television) - on the 14th you have two spent forces colliding in Matthysse vs. Pacquiao and then Rougarou taking on this rando.

Usyk vs. Gassiev is a GREAT fight and both Pitufo vs. Ito and García vs. Easter are "pretty good" - but they can't and don't carry the whole month by themselves. Having two consecutive Saturdays where there's basically nothing in terms of even remotely world class even matchmaking on TV is a big deficit to have to make up. You would need a stacked weekend on both July 21st & 28th just to break even.

It isn't even like the undercards for those three fights are all that spectacular either. They're okay at best.
