Most title fights have both boxers wearing the same brand and colour gloves. These days commonly it's Mexican made gloves (eg Reyes, Grant). I've been surprised recently though how often, local bouts in particular, have boxers wearing mismatching coloured gloves (of the same make) or even gloves that are both of different make and different colour. It surprises me that gloves of different makes, and as most of us know the padding shape and feel varies from brand to brand, can be used in the same bout. Does anyone know what the regulations are? (regs are probably different for each organisation too I'm guessing?)
Im a huge fan of the Reyes (punchers) gloves. Always found them the best to use. Yepp Robot is right. In Australia unless its stipulated in the contract the boxers can use whatever recognized glove brand they like. Obviously they must be of the same weight.
I don't doubt that what you are saying is correct. But as you say Reyes are well known as puncher's gloves, and gloves definately vary from brand to brand. Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me that two guys in the same bout can use gloves that, although the same weight, can vary quite a bit in padding characteristic etc. Perhaps the fact that elite bouts tend to have both fighters wearing exactly the same gloves supports that thinking.
Yeah but in America you see some fighters wear two different brands. Eg Floyd Mayweatehr always wore those that protect his hands, while his opponents would not. I do not see it ia a prob, but if the fighters do imo they would put it into a contract to wear the same type.
There's been plenty of examples in fights where boxers use different gloves. Whether it be contracts or trying to protect hands etc. But the greatest gloves ever used were in Foreman v Frazier I. Hands down, that was some funky **** right there.
hahaha just finished watching that fight and i kept looking at the frigging gloves the whole time like farrrrrrrr you just don't see that today!
