    Because they're gullible to believe in something as unsubstantiated and ridiculous as religion in the first place.

    I always think of him as political rather than religious. Not that they need to be exlusive of one another. Or even should be!

    Being a successful religious fighter doesn't necessarily mean they are intelligent and well-educated.
